Jets Trio of Cuts Bode Well for Young Safety

Doug Middleton JN

By Glenn Naughton

Having trimmed their roster to the required 75 players prior to tomorrow night’s final preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, the list of the players let go by the Jets is a positive development for one of Gang Green’s many undrafted free agent rookies.

In cutting ties with Dion Bailey, the Jets have one less safety in the room while Appalachian State product Doug Middleton has made it through to the next round of cuts.

The rangy 6′ , 210 lb Middleton was one of the first undrafted free agents added to the roster after impressing team brass during OTA’s. With Marcus Gilchirst and Calvin Pryor set as the team’s starters and Rontez Miles likely to stick as well, Middleton will compete with Ronald Martin for what is possibly the final safety spot.

Running back Romar Morris and defensive lineman Jake Ceresna were also let go by the Jets.  Don’t be surprised if we see Morris’ name again when practice squad signings are announced.
