The New York Jets have made a change at Punter.
Robert Malone had 16 punts on the season with a 46.3 yard average. The Jets are most likely looking for more consistency, although Malone may be the first punter to ever be waived a week after a 84 yard punt. Ryan Quigley was originally signed by the Jets in April of 2013 and was with the team in training camp. He will now have an opportunity to prove he can handle the punting duties for the Jets.
Mike Westhoff may be gone, but the punting carousel lives on for the New York Jets.
Rex Ryan commented on the release of Robert Malone, “I think with Robert, it’s just the consistency. That’s the thing that bothered us. Let’s face it, he had one of the best punts in Jets history in Week One and then he had some others where the hang time wasn’t where we wanted to be. With (Ryan) Quigley, it was a tight competition before, but we did think he gives a little more consistency.”
