{"id":9032,"date":"2011-09-02T19:27:05","date_gmt":"2011-09-02T23:27:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=9032"},"modified":"2011-09-02T19:28:45","modified_gmt":"2011-09-02T23:28:45","slug":"greg-mcelroy-has-surgery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2011\/09\/02\/greg-mcelroy-has-surgery\/","title":{"rendered":"Greg McElroy Has Surgery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The New York Jets selected QB Greg McElroy in the 7th round of the 2011 NFL Draft with hopes of him becoming their long-term # 2 quarterback.\u00a0 McElroy did not disappoint and had a very good camp.\u00a0 He saw a lot of playing time in the preseason because backup QB Mark Brunell has been hurt.\u00a0 As a result, McElroy took a pounding this preseason behind the Jets 2nd and 3rd string offensive line.<\/p>\n<p>Last night, McElroy was injured although it wasn&#8217;t the result of a sack, his throwing hand hit Matt Kroul&#8217;s helmet.\u00a0 This resulted in a thumb injury and <a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/blog\/new-york\/jets\/post\/_\/id\/6868\/tough-luck-for-mcelroy\" target=\"_blank\">according to ESPN NY<\/a>, McElroy had surgery this morning to correct it.<\/p>\n<p>The timeline for his return is unknown but he isn&#8217;t expected to be placed on the injured reserve list.\u00a0 This leaves the Jets without a 3rd string QB.\u00a0 They could keep Drew Willy who played extensively last night but other than a cool name, he doesn&#8217;t offer the Jets that much.\u00a0 Look for them to make a move to bring in a veteran backup.<\/p>\n<p>Greg McElroy tweeted this a few minutes ago:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Thanks to everyone for positive thoughts and prayers.
