{"id":876,"date":"2007-03-16T01:12:07","date_gmt":"2007-03-16T06:12:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=876"},"modified":"2007-03-16T01:12:07","modified_gmt":"2007-03-16T06:12:07","slug":"baseball-nl-rookies-preview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2007\/03\/16\/baseball-nl-rookies-preview\/","title":{"rendered":"Baseball Preview: NL Rookies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" align=\"right\" width=\"133\" src=\"http:\/\/jetnation.com\/graphics\/header\/jnlogo.gif\" height=\"102\" style=\"width: 133px; height: 102px\" \/>Fantasy Baseball with Mike Dietrich<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hello all and welcome to the 3rd installment of our fantasy baseball column.\u00c2\u00a0 This week\u00c2\u00a0 we will review NL rookies to watch out for this year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New York Mets<\/strong><br \/>\nMike Pelfrey is having a nice spring and will be a SP it is just a matter of when and not if.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Philadelphia Phillies<br \/>\n<\/strong>Michael Bourn has a pretty good shot in making the team.\u00c2\u00a0 He had 45 SB\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s in the minor last year and could flourish in a 4th OF spot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Atlanta Braves<\/strong><br \/>\nMatt Harrison will not make the team but is next in line when an injury hits this old rotation.\u00c2\u00a0 He had an impressive 114\/33 K\/BB last year in the minors in 160 innings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Washington Nationals<\/strong><br \/>\nKory Casto displayed some power last year with 21 Hr\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s and could get a job in the disjointed O situation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Florida Marlins<\/strong><br \/>\nMatt Lindstrom is now the favorite for saves in the Marlins bullpen.\u00c2\u00a0 He struck out 70 batters in 54 minor league innings last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Houston Astros<\/strong><br \/>\nHunter Pence is now forcing himself into the CF job and moving Chris Burke to 2B. He hit over .300 and 30 Hrs last year in the minors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chicago Cubs<\/strong><br \/>\nFelix Pie will not make the team but is a great reserve pick.\u00c2\u00a0 One of those 5 tools players who hit .280 with over 15 Hr\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s and 15 SB\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s last year in AAA.<\/p>\n<p><strong>St. Louis Cardinals<\/strong><br \/>\nJamie Garcia is the guy to watch with the Cards starting rotation looking the way it does.\u00c2\u00a0 Last year\u00c2\u00a0in 145 innings he struck out 131 and only walked 34 for an awesome ratio.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pittsburgh Pirates<\/strong><br \/>\nAndrew McCutheon who reached AA quicker than any other 2005 high school draftee has all the tools and opportunity.\u00c2\u00a0 He hit .330 17 Hrs and 23 SB\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s at two levels last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Milwaukee Brewers<\/strong><br \/>\nYovanni Gallardo is a top 15 overall prospect in baseball.\u00c2\u00a0 In 155 innings he struck out 188 and only walked 51 at two levels. He will be up by midseason.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cincinnati Reds<\/strong><br \/>\nHomer Bailey has the hype with a sub 3.00 ERA and 156\/50 K\/BB ratio.\u00c2\u00a0 He could be the pitcher that changes the Reds season or wins a fantasy title.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Arizona Diamondbacks<\/strong><br \/>\nChris Young is the guy who has CF all to himself this year.\u00c2\u00a0 21 Hrs and 17 SB\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s in AAA last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Los Angeles Dodgers<\/strong><br \/>\nAndy Laroche has the door open with Betemit\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s awful spring but he has not taken advantage of it.\u00c2\u00a0 He will be up by midseason and is backed his .310 avg and 19 Hrs in\u00c2\u00a0two levels last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Colorado Rockies<br \/>\n<\/strong>There are two everyday rookies here SS Troy Tutlowitzki (.291 13 Hrs) and C Chris Iannetta (.340 15 Hrs).\u00c2\u00a0 They were each at AAA and hope the humidor is not in use.<\/p>\n<p><strong>San Francisco Giants<br \/>\n<\/strong>Brian Wilson had a rough start last year (5.40 ERA) but was a successful closer in AAA (2.89 and 9 saves).\u00c2\u00a0 Benitez is as good as gone and he is having a great spring<\/p>\n<p>We will be back next week with a look at the American League rookies.\u00c2\u00a0 When you are evaluating young pitchers always review their WHIP and K\/BB ratio and not necessarily their ERA.\u00c2\u00a0 The fielding in the minor leagues can affect one but not the top two.\u00c2\u00a0 Please contact me at <a href=\"mailto:fantasymiked@yahoo.com\">fantasymiked@yahoo.com<\/a> with any questions or comments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fantasy Baseball with Mike Dietrich Hello all and welcome to the 3rd installment of our fantasy baseball column.\u00c2\u00a0 This week\u00c2\u00a0 we will review NL rookies to watch out for this year.
