{"id":853,"date":"2007-02-25T23:52:50","date_gmt":"2007-02-26T04:52:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=853"},"modified":"2007-02-25T23:52:50","modified_gmt":"2007-02-26T04:52:50","slug":"woodys-bottom-line","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2007\/02\/25\/woodys-bottom-line\/","title":{"rendered":"Woody&#039;s Bottom Line"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 108px; height: 226px;\" src=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/graphics\/Articles\/woody\/woody.bmp\" alt=\"\" width=\"108\" height=\"226\" align=\"right\" \/>By Max<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I had some harsh comments for Woody Johnson when I received my season ticket invoice the other day.\u00a0 After thinking about it some more, I felt my initial reaction was accurate.\u00a0 There is no reason that ticket prices should have gone up as much as they have these past few years.\u00a0 I understand that this is a league-wide trend.\u00a0 In the past few years, the average ticket price in the NFL rose just over five percent annually.\u00a0 Should I direct my rage at the entire NFL?\u00a0 No, because my check goes to Woody Johnson.<\/p>\n<p>You want to screw me over?\u00a0 Win the Super Bowl and I will open my checkbook to you.\u00a0 I would pay any price to see the Jets win it all.\u00a0 The problem is they haven&#8217;t won it all in my lifetime.\u00a0 I do think this organization is headed in the right direction.\u00a0 I really feel <!--more-->confident about Eric Mangini&#8217;s chances.\u00a0 But let&#8217;s be real here:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 This franchise is not &#8220;there yet&#8221;<br \/>\n2.\u00a0 The only reason that Eric Mangini is calling the shots here is because Herman Edwards wanted to leave<\/p>\n<p>Anyhow back on topic, these $10 increases every year are a real slap in the face to the true fans.\u00c2 Since Woody bought the team, the Jets record is 49-47.\u00a0 We are, and have been, paying a premium escalation for two games above textbook mediocrity to watch our beloved Jets in a stadium that still dons another team&#8217;s name.\u00a0 Do they hurt corporations?\u00a0 No.\u00a0 Does it mean the Jets won&#8217;t sell out the stadium?\u00a0 No.\u00a0 And that is exactly why they keep pushing the envelope.\u00a0 Kudos to your market research people, Woody:\u00a0 find the point at which people will revolt, and set the bar just beneath it.<\/p>\n<p>Woody is a good businessman, as was Leon Hess.\u00a0 Leon was at least self-made and fair to his ticket holders though.\u00a0 Neither owner has (or had) proven that he can get it done in the NFL.\u00a0 Now if the Jets win a Super Bowl while Woody owns the team, all will be forgiven.\u00a0 But if the Jets fall short under Woody&#8217;s supreme guidance, his legacy will be one of pure, unadulterated greed.\u00a0 The Jets failed when it came to landing a new West Side Stadium.\u00a0 Yet the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/lists\/2006\/30\/06nfl_NFL-Team-Valuations_YrChange.html\" target=\"_blank\">value<\/a> of the Jets franchise took the biggest leap in the NFL in 2006.\u00a0 So the season ticket holders have been rewarded with increase after increase despite a booming bottom line.<\/p>\n<p>It should be really interesting to see what happens when it comes to Personal Seat License (PSL) fees for the new &#8220;shared&#8221; stadium.\u00a0 In 2005, the Jets and the Giants ranked # 3 and # 4 respectively when it came to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.teammarketing.com\/fci.cfm?page=fci_nfl_05.cfm\" target=\"_blank\">average ticket prices<\/a>.
