{"id":77584,"date":"2025-04-17T23:36:58","date_gmt":"2025-04-18T03:36:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=77584"},"modified":"2025-04-17T23:36:58","modified_gmt":"2025-04-18T03:36:58","slug":"former-nfl-gm-says-jets-should-take-kelvin-banks-over-membou","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2025\/04\/17\/former-nfl-gm-says-jets-should-take-kelvin-banks-over-membou\/","title":{"rendered":"Former NFL GM Says Jets Should Take Kelvin Banks Over Membou"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While there is no shortage of prognosticators who foresee the Jets using the seventh overall pick in next week&#8217;s draft on right tackle Armand Membou, at least one former NFL GM thinks they should take Texas tackle Kelvin Banks instead.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"JetNation Mock Draft 2.0\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MdsJkzYeLdQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Appearing on a full <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/live\/Bqi684MlLC4?si=_NedzpiRPxdBHYE3\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>7-Round mock draft for CBS Sports<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, former Titans general manager Ran Carthon was in agreement with long-time NFL writer Pete Prisco, who, while picking for the Jets, took Banks over Membou.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I like the pick here&#8221;, adding &#8220;I like Membou, but I just think in the top ten for a guy who is still developmental who still has a ways to go from a technique and fundamental standpoint, I think that (seventh overall) was a little too rich.\u00a0 When you&#8217;re picking in the top ten you want to get about as sure a thing as you can find and Kelvin Banks, I think, is a solid pick for them here&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Prisco added that while Membou has &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/-o-H3wIHukc?si=L52DHc-aJ0pRocYO\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>wonderful athletic ability<\/strong><\/span><\/a>&#8221; but feels Membou is a &#8220;waist bender, he&#8217;s on the ground a lot and doesn&#8217;t finish all the time&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Having taken Penn State&#8217;s Olu Fashanu last season, the Jets are in search of a tackle to play on the opposite side following the departure of Morgan Moses.\u00a0 With Fashanu, John Simpson, Joe Tippmann and Alijah Vera-Tucker, the Jets line is mostly ready to go.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, the team did add free agent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/2025\/03\/12\/ot-chukwuma-okorafor-joins-jets-after-taking-year-off-in-24\/?srsltid=AfmBOorVgT8hoHLALDTyQBLbRPwbEGfSxtk3uv5YrBZLJt4aFlRDcUeh\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Chukwuma Okorafor<\/strong><\/span><\/a> this offseason, but he&#8217;s hardly a long-term answer at the position and may not even start this season.<\/p>\n<p>Adding a player such as Banks or Membou would mean some stiff competition for Okorafor who, in all likelihood, would become the underdog to line up as a starter for week 1.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; While there is no shortage of prognosticators who foresee the Jets using the seventh overall pick in next week&#8217;s draft on right tackle Armand Membou, at least one former NFL GM thinks they should take Texas tackle Kelvin Banks instead.
