For anyone suggesting Darren Mougey and Aaron Glenn may be eyeing a quarterback such as Jaxson Dart with the seventh pick in just under a month, you may want to pump the brakes and listen to the pair discuss new Jets QB Justin Fields.<\/p>\n

Owner of a 14-30 record as a pro, Fields’ play at Ohio State back in 2020 is still fresh in Glenn’s mind.\u00a0 Asked about Fields today at the annual owner’s meeting, Glenn said “If you go back and watch when he was in college, he was able to progress as far as reading coverages. To me, I think he had a chance to do that and he did it pretty well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aaron Glenn appears to be sold on Justin Fields as his starting QB before the NFL draft kicks off.<\/p><\/div>\n

Glenn also lauded Fields’ ability to challenge defenses deep, saying \u201cYou go back and watch him at Ohio State, he has a big arm\u201d<\/p>\n

Fields is the Jets’ starting quarterback according to Glenn.\u00a0 There will be no competition for the starting job.\u00a0 Though Glenn, showing the savvy of a veteran coach, said players are always competing just as Fields will compete every day with Tyrod Taylor.<\/p>\n

To hear Darren Mougey discuss Fields’ status, he too has said the QB is the team’s starter and that, “we believe in Justin. We believe we can win with Justin. So we’re excited about Justin’s potential”<\/p>\n

The money the Jets paid Fields after being benched last season in Pittsburgh shows the Jets really do think Fields can be the answer at quarterback.\u00a0 And while he’s far from a perfect product, Fields has always had elite QB traits.<\/p>\n
