{"id":7269,"date":"2011-01-24T12:19:27","date_gmt":"2011-01-24T16:19:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=7269"},"modified":"2011-01-24T12:29:47","modified_gmt":"2011-01-24T16:29:47","slug":"that-which-does-not-kill-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2011\/01\/24\/that-which-does-not-kill-us\/","title":{"rendered":"That Which Does Not Kill Us"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p><em>That which does not kill us, only serves to make us stronger.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We have heard it a million times.\u00a0 It is the piece of solace we are told to take out of negative situations.\u00a0 We will grow from this and the result will be different next time.<\/p>\n<p><em>My question is, as Jets fans, how strong do we need to be exactly?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There has been no shortage of things that almost killed us over the years.\u00a0 I am beginning to wonder if we are in this 50 year strength building exercise that requires us to possess super-human strength.\u00a0 It seems to be where we are headed, although none of us is sure why exactly.<\/p>\n<p>Last year as I walked out of the RCA Dome the Colts fans were celebrating and calling Jets fans every name in the book.\u00a0 Did I get stronger from that?\u00a0 As a fan of the visiting team, the walk of shame after a loss is the essence of pain.<\/p>\n<p>This year so many Steelers fans didn&#8217;t even stay for the post game celebration.\u00a0 Thousands of fans left which I just could not comprehend.\u00a0 Jets fans everywhere have been hoping, praying and clinging to the belief that the 40 year drought may have been nearing an end.\u00a0 Yearning for that victory celebration.\u00a0 Yet when the Steelers won, a lot of fans didn&#8217;t stay for the celebration.<\/p>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>Because they have won a lot.<\/p>\n<p>Does this make me stronger?\u00a0 Not sure how seeing another fan base that is almost numb from winning so much can benefit me.\u00a0 I am not gifted with musical talent but when I think of the Jets heartbreaking seasons it plays in my head like the Billy Joel song, &#8220;We didn&#8217;t start the fire&#8221;.\u00a0\u00a0 A.J. Duhe, fake spike, 1998, 2010 was almost great.<\/p>\n<p>If you ask 100 Jets fans what loss was the toughest for them, you will get many different answers.\u00a0 No two losses are the same.\u00a0 No two fans have the exact same reaction.<\/p>\n<p>This is not an indictment of the current New York Jets regime.\u00a0 Two years and two Championship game appearances is something everyone would have signed up for.\u00a0 The Jets are no longer the laughing stock of the league.\u00a0 Jet Nation can certainly take pride in that fact.<\/p>\n<p>The question lingers though.\u00a0 When does our strength pay off?\u00a0 When do the Jets end the drought and hoist the Lombardi trophy?\u00a0 On days like today, the pain of losing makes that seem like an impossible destination.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>That which does not kill us, only serves to make us stronger.
