Reputation at stake as Rex Ryan, Jets take on Colts<\/h4>\n

Rex Ryan\u2019s tough talk is on the line Saturday night as the Jets play the Colts in Indianapolis in a wild-card playoff game, and for fans it could make or break their faith in Gang Green.<\/p>\n

After a crushing 30-17 loss to the Colts in last year\u2019s AFC Championship Game, the Jets want vindication. A win could validate head coach Ryan\u2019s season-long boasts and Super Bowl predictions, but a loss would devastate fans.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf they lose, it\u2019s a season of unfulfilled promises,\u201d said Matt Loede of NFLGridironGab.com. \u201cRex Ryan made fans believe in these high expectations, but now we\u2019ll see if they can win somewhere they have some demons from a year ago.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Nate Dunlevy of Colts blog 18to88.com said all the rematch talk is just that \u2014 talk.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the same jerseys, but these aren\u2019t the same teams they were last year,\u201d he said. \u201cThe Colts are not the same juggernaut they were; they\u2019re a shell of themselves decimated by injury.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tyson Rauch of JetNation.com agreed.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot\u2019s being made about redeeming last year,\u201d he said, \u201cbut this is just one step in the journey to the Super Bowl.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dunlevy added that Colts quarterback Peyton Manning \u2014 Ryan\u2019s proclaimed nemesis \u2014 is back to All-Pro form after a five-game mid-season meltdown despite Indianapolis\u2019 injury-plagued roster.<\/p>\n

Ryan last week called out Manning, saying: \u201cI\u2019m going to beat him one day and I just hope it\u2019s this Saturday,\u201d adding that his desire to beat the Colts is \u201cpersonal.\u201d Manning has a 5-1 record against Ryan-led defenses.<\/p>\n

The Jets come in 11-5 after a shaky second half of the season that was lowlighted by devastating losses to Chicago and New England, with the Patriots blowing them away 45-3.<\/p>\n

And if the Jets beat the Colts, it\u2019s back up to Foxboro, Mass., to play Tom Brady and the Pats.<\/p>\n

But for some fans, all that matters is a good game Saturday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just so excited, because the Jets have pulled out some amazing wins,\u201d said Bill Steyert, 67, of Forest Hills. \u201cBut of course they\u2019ve looked despicable sometimes.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cWhat it comes to is which Jets are gonna turn up: the good Jets or the bad?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\"amny\"\n
