{"id":62446,"date":"2023-03-27T05:05:12","date_gmt":"2023-03-27T09:05:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=62446"},"modified":"2023-04-24T05:34:37","modified_gmt":"2023-04-24T09:34:37","slug":"nfl-insiders-in-hurry-to-show-just-how-little-they-know-about-jets-and-joe-douglas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2023\/03\/27\/nfl-insiders-in-hurry-to-show-just-how-little-they-know-about-jets-and-joe-douglas\/","title":{"rendered":"NFL Insiders in Hurry to Show Just how Little They Know About Jets and Joe Douglas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tell me you don&#8217;t know anything about Joe Douglas without telling me you don&#8217;t know anything about Joe Douglas.\u00a0 This would seem an appropriate response to a surprising number of supposed NFL insiders and dopey bloggers as it pertains to the Jets current pursuit of Green Bay Packers quarterback <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.co.uk\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/8439\/aaron-rodgers\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Aaron Rodgers<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>All we know for sure about the current state of negotiations is that we don&#8217;t know anything for sure about the current state of the negotiations.\u00a0 Some are assuming it&#8217;s about the Packers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/blog\/new-york-jets\/post\/_\/id\/91590\/new-york-jets-want-to-keep-lucky-13th-pick-a-usual-gold-mine-for-bigs\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>wanting the 13th overall pick<\/strong><\/span><\/a> for their one-year rental, while others insist it&#8217;s about who will be paying how much money to the future Hall of Fame quarterback.\u00a0 Then there&#8217;s Trey Wingo, who seems to be the only one who has gotten anything right, and he&#8217;s on record is saying the deal is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2023\/03\/14\/trey-wingo-jets-deal-for-rodgers-has-been-in-place-for-a-long-time\/\"><strong>almost completed<\/strong><\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-twitter\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Follow the money &#8211; The Green Bay Packers sure aren&#39;t acting like a team planning on trading their quarterback after June 1st.<\/p>\n<p>They are pinching their pennies. Why? Because they plan to eat the cap hit and trade Rodgers before the draft, well before any June scenarios play out.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Ken &#8211; Packers Cap (@KenIngalls) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KenIngalls\/status\/1640219998688882689?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 27, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>At least one Packers shareholder (and certified public accountant to boot), believes Green Bay is in penny pinching mode because of the huge cap hit they&#8217;re going to absorb in the deal.\u00a0 But again, nobody on the outside knows for sure.<\/p>\n<p>That still hasn&#8217;t stopped a wave of writers, fans and pundits from making bold claims along the lines of &#8220;The Jets have no &#8216;plan B'&#8221;, or &#8220;Joe Douglas has no other option other than Rodgers unless he wants to sign Blaine Gabbert&#8221;.\u00a0 This, according to Aaron Nagler<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-twitter\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&quot;The Jets can literally explore all other quarterback options this season.&quot; Indeed! history as a General Manager.\u00a0 When it comes to Douglas, whether he&#8217;s making a trade or handing out a contract, he sets his price and stands pat.\u00a0 Something that we discussed <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/TlMVoG1wIbg\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>here on JetNation radio<\/strong><\/span><\/a> with Chris Schubert of The Draft Network.<\/p>\n<p>We saw it when the Jets were outbid for safety Marcus Williams, when they traded Jamal Adams and when they shipped Sam Darnold to the Carolina Panthers.\u00a0 Douglas stood pat and got what he wanted.\u00a0 And in both cases, got far more than any insider could have predicted.<\/p>\n<p>Othes believe Joe Douglas will feel the pressure of having to get a deal done because new Jets wide receiver Allen Lazard complimented Rodgers at one point.\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 This is a real thing.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-twitter\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The more open <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Jets?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Jets<\/a> players talk about the Aaron Rodgers\/Jets trade &#8211; Kyle Malzhan (@KyleMalzhan) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KyleMalzhan\/status\/1639724460168077317?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 25, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>It&#8217;s safe to say at this point that Joe Douglas didn&#8217;t <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2023\/03\/22\/dealing-elijah-moore-wasnt-only-inevitable-but-necessary-for-gang-green\/\"><strong>ship Elijah Moore off to Cleveland<\/strong><\/a><\/span> to immediately turn around and add Rodgers, because here we sit days after the move and still no word on the QB.<\/p>\n<p>With so many insiders unable to glean anything of substance from the current negotiations, how in the world can they be taken seriously when they say the Jets have no &#8220;plan B&#8221;.\u00a0 Does anyone seriously believe that if the Rodgers deal doesn&#8217;t happen, that the Jets are going to put the phone down and get back to the drawing board?<\/p>\n<p>Or is it more likely that the team has a short list of veterans who may be available via trade?\u00a0 If medically cleared, would the team not make some calls about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/players\/matthew-stafford\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Matthew Stafford<\/strong><\/span><\/a>?\u00a0 The Rams are short on picks and would probably like to unload Stafford&#8217;s deal.\u00a0 This would give the Jets a veteran QB who won a Super Bowl just two seasons ago.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.co.uk\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/14876\/ryan-tannehill\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Ryan Tannehill<\/strong><\/span><\/a> could be another option despite the Titans verbally committing to the signal caller.\u00a0 Both would be of a lower quality than Rodgers, but both are easily good enough to make a post-season run if the Jets defense plays anywhere close to the level it did in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Then of course there&#8217;s Ravens quarterback <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.co.uk\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/3916387\/lamar-jackson\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Lamar Jackson<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 The least likely of the three due to his current club being likely to match any offer that comes in, but that doesn&#8217;t mean the Jets can&#8217;t (or won&#8217;t) kick the tires.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the only team involved in the deal with no real plan B is the Packers.\u00a0 Should Green Bay fail to move Rodgers, they would be stuck with a player they don&#8217;t want, who will cost them roughly $100 million in cash and cap hits over the next two years.<\/p>\n<p>In the end there will likely be a deal, but don&#8217;t pay any attention to the insiders whose info is little more than wishful thinking.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tell me you don&#8217;t know anything about Joe Douglas without telling me you don&#8217;t know anything about Joe Douglas.\u00a0 This would seem an appropriate response to a surprising number of supposed NFL insiders and dopey bloggers as it pertains to the Jets current pursuit of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
