George Fant, who recently credited Robert Saleh<\/a> for making the players buy into his system and leave those losing habits in the rearview mirror:<\/p>\n\u201cI would just kind of say I think that was just him talking about the culture in general,\u201d Fant said of Saleh. \u201cI had the opportunity to play out in Seattle with Pete Carroll, and that\u2019s probably one of the better cultures in the NFL, and I also knew that coach Saleh had the opportunity to coach in Seattle with coach Carroll.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, for him to come here and kind of talk about some of those key things that we talked about in Seattle and bringing those things here in New York, I kind of knew right away what was coming,\u201d Fant added. \u201cI think him going to get some free agents who believe in building a strong culture, who also came from strong cultures as well, was one of the key reasons why we\u2019re here now, looking at the playoffs.\u201d<\/p>\n
Win or lose, this is a team that will play hard week in and week out and will continue to challenge contenders regardless of the scoreboard. That\u2019s the least you can ask from a young team looking to make a name for itself.<\/p>\n
Will They Give Up On Zach Wilson?<\/h2>\n
Of course, there\u2019s also the Zach Wilson situation. The sophomore QB was a disaster for most of the campaign, even losing his job to Mike White, before Zach returned in the loss to the Lions. White might as well give them a better shot at winning week in and week out:<\/p>\n
\u201cThe way that I handled the situation wasn\u2019t right,\u201d the QB told SNY. \u201cI gotta be a better football player and then I gotta be a better leader for these guys. I have an opportunity to turn a page here as a player and as a leader.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s tough, man [to be benched],\u201d Wilson added. \u201cIt\u2019s never fun. The first thing that kinda went to my mind is that I gotta get to work. I gotta get better and I\u2019m gonna approach that every single day to keep working to get better. I wouldn\u2019t say necessarily surprised because I haven\u2019t been doing my job. Of course, I would like to not agree with the decision but it comes down to I\u2019ve gotta play better.\u201d<\/p>\n
Wilson is one season removed from being the second overall pick of the Draft, so giving up on him so fast would be a deadly blow for any organization. So, they\u2019ll have a full off-season to assess their options and either pursue a new prospect, a proven veteran or give Wilson another shot.<\/p>\n
