{"id":61275,"date":"2022-11-27T09:45:31","date_gmt":"2022-11-27T13:45:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=61275"},"modified":"2022-11-27T09:48:30","modified_gmt":"2022-11-27T13:48:30","slug":"saleh-got-it-right-calling-for-jets-to-back-zach-defies-logic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2022\/11\/27\/saleh-got-it-right-calling-for-jets-to-back-zach-defies-logic\/","title":{"rendered":"Saleh got it Right; Calling for Jets to Back Zach Defies Logic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following his team&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2022\/11\/20\/wilson-flops-on-field-does-worse-in-post-game-presser-following-jets-ugly-10-3-loss\/\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">heartbreaking 10-3 loss<\/span><\/strong><\/a> at the hands of the New England Patriots last Sunday, Jets head coach Robert Saleh had an important decision to make.<\/p>\n<p>Option A: Stick with his floundering quarterback and hope his defense and running game can continue to carry his team to victories?<\/p>\n<p>or<\/p>\n<p>Option B: Does Saleh bench his young signal caller, who is arguably the worst player at his position in the NFL right now, and try to inject a bit of life into his offense?<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-twitter\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Zach Wilson this season:<br \/>\u20224 TDs (34th)<br \/>\u20221,279 passing yards (31st)<br \/>\u202255.6 completion percentage (36th)<br \/>\u202272.6 QBR (35th)<\/p>\n<p>Flacco time for the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Jets?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Jets<\/a>? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/004BFl17l3\">pic.twitter.com\/004BFl17l3<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Michael Balko (@MichaelBalkoJr) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MichaelBalkoJr\/status\/1595119332346171392?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 22, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It was an easy call and Saleh got it right.\u00a0 It&#8217;s Zach Wilson to the bench, and Mike White under center.\u00a0 In no way does this mean White is a more talented player or that he has a higher ceiling.\u00a0 What it does say is that the Jets want to win football games right now and asking their defense to continue doing that for them isn&#8217;t sustainable.<\/p>\n<p>At some point, the Jets need a quarterback who will find the open receiver and give him a chance to make a play on the ball.\u00a0 Even if White were to miss the mark and turn the ball over at a higher rate than Wilson, the Jets can live with that as long as there are some touchdown passes along the way.\u00a0 That&#8217;s not happening with Wilson, who is on pace for just 8 touchdown passes.\u00a0 Eight.\u00a0 In the year 2022.\u00a0 Inexcusable.<\/p>\n<p>With Wilson under center, the Jets had a quarterback who, time and again, wasn&#8217;t seeing (or wasn&#8217;t throwing to) wide open receivers.\u00a0 Wilson wasn&#8217;t trusting his eyes and he was terrified at the sight of pressure.\u00a0 Too often Wilson would either bail on a clean pocket, or flat out refuse to hang in to take a hit while looking to complete a pass down the field.\u00a0 That&#8217;s in the job description of an NFL quarterback, and right now it&#8217;s one of the many aspects of his job at which he is failing.<\/p>\n<p>There are still those fans clamoring for Wilson.\u00a0 &#8220;How will we know what we have if he sits&#8221;?\u00a0 That&#8217;s the problem.\u00a0 As Wilson continues to hold on to the ball too long and fail to find the end zone, the Jets are finding out that what they have is a QB who is holding the rest of the team back.<\/p>\n<p>The Jets haven&#8217;t sniffed a playoff game in over 10 seasons.\u00a0 Right now their defense is playing at a championship level.\u00a0 That type of defense doesn&#8217;t call for elite QB play.\u00a0 it calls for a quarterback who can consistently get you in to the end zone.\u00a0 Will Mike White be able to get the job done?\u00a0 That&#8217;s something that nobody knows.<\/p>\n<p>But what everybody knows, is that Zach Wilson can&#8217;t.\u00a0 Not right now anyway.\u00a0 Giving White a shot tells the other 52 guys on the roster (and the fan base), that the team isn&#8217;t willing to throw away a potentially special season on just one player.\u00a0 Anyone calling for Wilson to stay on the field to produce nothing on offense couldn&#8217;t be more off the mark.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Following his team&#8217;s heartbreaking 10-3 loss at the hands of the New England Patriots last Sunday, Jets head coach Robert Saleh had an important decision to make.
