{"id":59575,"date":"2022-06-15T12:58:47","date_gmt":"2022-06-15T16:58:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=59575"},"modified":"2022-06-15T13:13:34","modified_gmt":"2022-06-15T17:13:34","slug":"pathway-to-53-man-roster-is-bigger-uphill-battle-than-years-past-for-jets-wr-jeff-smith","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2022\/06\/15\/pathway-to-53-man-roster-is-bigger-uphill-battle-than-years-past-for-jets-wr-jeff-smith\/","title":{"rendered":"Pathway to 53-man Roster is Bigger Uphill Battle Than Year&#8217;s Past for Jets WR Jeff Smith"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Full disclosure&#8230;there&#8217;s a good chance I&#8217;m a bigger Jeff Smith fan than most.\u00a0 In three years with the Jets, the undrafted receiver has managed to produce just 26 receptions for 292 yards without a touchdown.\u00a0 In year&#8217;s past, Smith&#8217;s path to the 53-man roster didn&#8217;t present as many obstacles as the 2022 version, which means Smith has to step up his game.<\/p>\n<p>After drafting Garrett Wilson in the first round of the NFL draft after a season in which Elijah Moore cemented his spot at the top end of the depth chart, wide receiver spots on the roster are dwindling.<\/p>\n<p>Gone are the days of competing with Jaleel Scott and Josh Malone with Jamison Crowder and Braxton Berrios leading the way.\u00a0 There are now at least four wide receivers locked in to make the roster in Wilson, Moore, Berrios and Corey Davis.\u00a0 This leaves just a couple of spots for Smith to fight for.\u00a0 And if the early results in mini camp are any indication, he&#8217;s fighting pretty hard.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-twitter\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Better day for Zach Wilson.
