{"id":57648,"date":"2021-12-04T07:30:54","date_gmt":"2021-12-04T11:30:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=57648"},"modified":"2021-12-04T07:30:54","modified_gmt":"2021-12-04T11:30:54","slug":"one-teams-trash-is-joe-ds-treasure-gm-doing-impressive-work-with-previous-castoffs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2021\/12\/04\/one-teams-trash-is-joe-ds-treasure-gm-doing-impressive-work-with-previous-castoffs\/","title":{"rendered":"One Team&#8217;s Trash is Joe D&#8217;s Treasure; GM Doing Impressive Work With Previous Castoffs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s no secret that the respective tenures of former Jets General Managers John Idzik and Mike Maccagnan were some of the worst years Jets fans have ever seen in terms of talent evaluation.\u00a0 The two ran a total of six drafts.\u00a0 The result?\u00a0 Gang Green selected 53 players with most of them off the roster or out of the league entirely in a matter of years.\u00a0 Or in some cases, a few months.<\/p>\n<p>This meant current GM Joe Douglas was inheriting what was arguably the least talented roster in the NFL.\u00a0 With that being the case, Douglas would have to find players not only through the draft and free agency, but by combing the waiver wire and monitoring other team&#8217;s practice squads.<\/p>\n<p>Thus far, Douglas has done a surprisingly good job of acquiring talent by doing exactly that.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But wait&#8221;, you&#8217;ll say.\u00a0 &#8220;If Joe Douglas is finding good players through waivers, undrafted free agency and opposing practice squads, how are the Jets so bad?&#8221; Easy.\u00a0 As mentioned above, Douglas inherited a roster that probably needed to add 25 or more quality players just to get their head above water along with some time for those players to develop.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"New York Jets GM Douglas Deserves Some Love From Fans\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fCz8MCh-rCg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>But a quick glance at the Jets current roster and some of their best and most productive players have come from out of nowhere to become significant contributors.\u00a0 Defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers has a career-high six sacks and will make a push to hit double digits down the stretch.\u00a0 Meanwhile, Javelin Guidry has gone from slot corner to a hybrid slot\/boundary corner who looks to be improving more and more as his playing time increases.<\/p>\n<p>Quincy Williams, a castoff from the Jacksonville Jaguars isn&#8217;t without his flaws, but he hits like a truck and looks to have stolen the starting job next to CJ Mosley.\u00a0 Ty Johnson has been a quality running back who can also catch the ball as a receiver.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-twitter\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Could make a case that everyone listed has already done as much\/more than most of the 53 guys drafted by Idzik\/Mac.
