{"id":576,"date":"2006-08-10T01:04:55","date_gmt":"2006-08-10T06:04:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=576"},"modified":"2006-08-10T01:04:55","modified_gmt":"2006-08-10T06:04:55","slug":"jetnation-camp-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2006\/08\/10\/jetnation-camp-report\/","title":{"rendered":"JetNation Camp Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jetnation.com\/graphics\/Articles\/logo\/jnlogo_small.gif\" align=\"left\" \/>By Max<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>08\/09\/06 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c 5:30pm Practice<br \/>\n<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0<br \/>\nThis practice can be described best with these words:\u00c2\u00a0 game preparation.\u00c2\u00a0 They spent a lot of time on the 2 minute drill.\u00c2\u00a0 The focus seemed to be on substitutions (both sides of the ball).\u00c2\u00a0 The kickoff and punt teams saw lots of action.\u00c2\u00a0 Here are some other observations.<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00a0<br \/>\n<strong>The good:<br \/>\n<\/strong>\u00c2\u00b7\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Shotgun \u00e2\u20ac\u201c it is part of this offense.<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00b7\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Tim Dwight and Brad Smith are explosive.\u00c2\u00a0 Dwight was all over the place, he never seems to get tired.\u00c2\u00a0 Smith made an acrobatic catch in the end zone on a ball thrown by Patrick Ramsey.\u00c2\u00a0 (Ramsey also had another nice TD pass to Reggie Newhouse).<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00b7\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Accountability:\u00c2\u00a0 Isaac Snell committed a false start early in practice.\u00c2\u00a0 He knew he owed the team a lap.\u00c2\u00a0 Nobody had to say anything.\u00c2\u00a0 He just left the formation and started jogging.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->\u00c2\u00b7\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Doug Jolley might finally emerge and become a big part of this offense.\u00c2\u00a0 He looked good especially when he hooked up with Chad Pennington on a 20 yard TD (during the two minute drill).<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00b7\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Cedric Houston looked good, especially when running up the middle.\u00c2\u00a0 Now this was a non-contact session but he hit the holes hard.\u00c2\u00a0 He looked inside first and only took it outside when nothing was happening between the tackles.<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00a0<strong>The bad:<br \/>\n<\/strong>\u00c2\u00b7\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The offense is simply not ready.\u00c2\u00a0 Maybe Pennington is the answer.\u00c2\u00a0 If so their performance will improve once the four man rotation stops.\u00c2\u00a0 Until such time they are inconsistent at best (The team did not move the ball well during the 2 minute drill).<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00b7\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Cotchery had a good practice but he dropped a perfectly thrown ball from Clemens during the 11 on 11 drill.\u00c2\u00a0 He gave the universal \u00e2\u20ac\u0153my bad\u00e2\u20ac? sign before the ball hit the ground.<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00b7\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Spend any amount of time watching the defensive line rotation and you will be concerned.\u00c2\u00a0 If there is a unit that has a lot to prove, this is it.<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00a0<br \/>\n<strong>The interesting:<br \/>\n<\/strong>\u00c2\u00b7\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The practices are long.\u00c2\u00a0 Really long.\u00c2\u00a0 It will be interesting to see if Mangini and company know when to crack the whip and when to ease up as the season progresses.<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00b7\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The loud music at camp really seems to keep the players energized and focused.<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00b7\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The injured players worked harder on the sidelines than the rest of the team.\u00c2\u00a0 The eight players who were unfortunate enough to miss the practice spent the time (2.5 hours) doing sit ups, riding exercise bikes, doing sprints, walking and stretching.\u00c2\u00a0 They looked spent especially considering that they were located in full sun the entire time.\u00c2\u00a0 Is that a coincidence?\u00c2\u00a0 Or is it Mangini being very detailed oriented?\u00c2\u00a0 Either way there is no such thing as missing practice under Mangini.<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00b7\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Lots of goal line formations that saw tight ends in the backfield (Dressen and Jolley).<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00b7\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Bryan Thomas spent a lot of time in pass coverage.\u00c2\u00a0 We are not ready to proclaim that he has arrived but he held his own.<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00b7\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Leon Washington, Cothcery, Dwight and McCareins all took turns returning punts.<br \/>\nTrick plays.\u00c2\u00a0 They cover everything.\u00c2\u00a0 The hook and ladder play is alive and well.\u00c2\u00a0 Laterals are an option.\u00c2\u00a0 If the Jets are losing and time is running out, they will be interesting if nothing else.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Max 08\/09\/06 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c 5:30pm Practice \u00c2\u00a0 This practice can be described best with these words:\u00c2\u00a0 game preparation.\u00c2\u00a0 They spent a lot of time on the 2 minute drill.\u00c2\u00a0 The focus seemed to be on substitutions (both sides of the ball).\u00c2\u00a0 The kickoff and punt teams saw lots of action.\u00c2\u00a0 Here are some other observations.
