{"id":566,"date":"2006-07-27T15:18:34","date_gmt":"2006-07-27T20:18:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=566"},"modified":"2006-07-27T15:18:34","modified_gmt":"2006-07-27T20:18:34","slug":"jets-place-martin-mccareins-on-pup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2006\/07\/27\/jets-place-martin-mccareins-on-pup\/","title":{"rendered":"Jets Place Martin, McCareins on PUP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jetnation.com\/graphics\/Articles\/helmet\/jets.bmp\" align=\"left\" \/>The New York Jets announced today that RB Curtis Martin, WR Justin McCareins, OL Trey Teague and DB Rayshun Reed were placed on the club\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s physically unable to perform list.\u00c2\u00a0 The team also signed OL Pete McMahon and waived FB Luke Lawton.<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00a0<br \/>\nMartin, 33, is the fourth-leading rusher in NFL history with 14,101 yards on 3,518 carries.\u00c2\u00a0 The former University of Pittsburgh star is in his ninth season with the Jets, having joined the team as a restricted free agent in March of 1998.\u00c2\u00a0 With the Jets, Martin has established Club-records in nearly every rushing category, including: rushing yards (10,302), rushing attempts (2,560), rushing touchdowns (58), 100-yard rushing games (43), and yards from scrimmage (12,741).<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Teague, 31, is an eight-year veteran of the National Football League who spent the previous four seasons (2002-\u00e2\u20ac\u02dc05) with the Buffalo Bills.\u00c2\u00a0 He signed with the Jets as an unrestricted free agent on April 12, 2006.<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00a0<br \/>\nMcCareins, 27, posted a team-high 16.6 yards per reception receiving average last season.\u00c2\u00a0 He is beginning his third season with the Jets after having spent his first three seasons in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans.<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00a0<br \/>\nReed, 25, signed with the Jets on June 2, 2006 following a spring in which he played for the Hamburg Sea Devils in NFL Europe.\u00c2\u00a0 Reed, from Troy State, played the 2004 season with the San Francisco 49ers and went to camp with the 49ers last season before being waived on final cut-downs.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00a0<br \/>\nNFL rules allow teams to designate players as &#8220;Physically Unable to Perform.&#8221; Once they are designated as such they are prohibited from practicing with the team. They can, however, rehabilitate and participate in team meetings. If a player begins training camp on the PUP list, he can be moved to the active roster at any time, even after one practice.
