{"id":51770,"date":"2020-08-10T01:56:31","date_gmt":"2020-08-10T05:56:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=51770"},"modified":"2020-08-10T12:34:03","modified_gmt":"2020-08-10T16:34:03","slug":"the-jets-are-being-already-being-disrespected-as-300-home-underdogs-in-week-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2020\/08\/10\/the-jets-are-being-already-being-disrespected-as-300-home-underdogs-in-week-2\/","title":{"rendered":"The Jets Are Already Being Disrespected As +300 Home Underdogs In Week 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After finishing the 2019 campaign on a high note, sportsbooks are still hesitant to believe in the Jets.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MGM has the <\/span><b>New York Jets<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> listed as +300 underdogs at home against the <\/span><b>San Francisco 49ers <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in Week 2 of the 2020 season.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Jets had an impressive late season run after a slow start, going 6-2 over their last eight games.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New offensive weapons <\/span><b>Breshad Perriman<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and rookie <\/span><b>Denzel Mims<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> could be key components to success in the 2020 season.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MGM Sportsbook may be undervaluing the Jets at home, even against the reigning NFC Champions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Hot 2019 Finish<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The New York Jets have had a rough go of it in recent years. However, there are some bright spots on the young roster in the process of rebuilding. With quarterback <\/span><b>Sam Darnold<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> missing three games due to mono, the Jets began the season with an abysmal 1-7 record. When Darnold returned, things quickly and silently turned around, as the team went 6-2 to finish the year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most importantly, we saw how the team progressed as Darnold developed. The quarterback finished the year with 19 touchdowns over 13 games; best of all, 10 of the passing touchdowns were while he was under pressure (league-high). New York improved the offensive line to help the development of the young quarterback over the offseason.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>New Faces<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Jets had an offseason that screamed \u201cebuild. Most notably, we saw them trade away their disgruntled young star, safety <\/span><b>Jamal Adams<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, for an impressive haul of two future first-round picks. Although the team\u2019s offseason is highlighted by a major subtraction, the Jets made some great additions through free agency and the draft.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The team reinforced their offensive line with the signings of <\/span><b>Josh Andrews<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Connor McGovern<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>George Fant<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Greg Van Roten<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>Alex Lewis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Additionally, the 11th overall pick in the draft, <\/span><b>Mekhi Becton<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, will look to protect Darnold in the pocket and help <\/span><b>Le\u2019Veon Bell<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> establish a more consistent running game.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The most exciting newcomers to the 2020 Jets offense are Breshad Perriman and rookie Denzel Mims. In weeks 13 through 17 of last season, Perriman broke out for over 500 receiving yards and logged just one drop on 65 targets. Meanwhile, at Baylor, Mims recorded 66 receptions for 1,020 yards and 12 touchdowns. The addition of two new deep threats to replace <\/span><b>Robby Anderson<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> look promising for <\/span><b>Adam Gase<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Darnold\u2019s passing offense.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Week 2 Against The Reigning NFC Champs<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The San Francisco 49ers were a force to be reckoned with last season. As the 49ers choked away the Super Bowl, the 7-9 Jets were at home watching on the couch. As a result, sportsbooks such as MGM, are undervaluing the Jets and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/betql.co\/nfl\/odds\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">point spread<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> +300 to defeat the 49ers in New York.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last season, as home underdogs, the Jets were an impressive 4-2 against the spread (ATS). The 49ers, as away favorites, were 1-2. Additionally, against non-conference teams, New York fared rather well, going 3-1 ATS. With new additions to the offensive line, as well as the passing game, we can expect to see a revamped offense led by a more experienced Darnold next season.
