The Eric Mangini era is officially here. So lets take a brief look at his past and look to the future and what it might bring to us Jet fans.

\nHerman Edwards was 39 and 41 in his five seasons as H.C. of the N.Y.J., a forgettable .487 winning percentage. There is\u00c2\u00a0certainly room for improvement\u00c2\u00a0for his successor.<\/p>\n
Eric Mangini worked for the New England\u00c2\u00a0 Patriots for six years.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0The first five of which he served as defensive backs coach (2000 to 2004) and last year (2005)\u00c2\u00a0as it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s\u00c2\u00a0defensive coordinator. Prior to joining the Patriots, Eric Mangini was a defensive assistant\/quality control coach with the Jets (1997 to 1999).\u00c2\u00a0 He\u00c2\u00a0also served assistant stints with the Balitimore Ravens\u00c2\u00a0and Cleveland Browns , in 1996 and 1995, respectively.

\nWhat are the expectations for Mangini? This is New York, so the high expectations and expectation of immediate results will always be there.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Given the current \u00e2\u20ac\u0153perceived\u00e2\u20ac? state of the Jets\u00c2\u00a0 franchise, Mangini might get something of a free pass in year one from both the media and Jet fans.\u00c2\u00a0 But after that, Jets fans are going to want some tangible return for their loyalty.<\/p>\n
Eric Mangini has learned from one of the best coaches in the game, Bill Belichick.\u00c2\u00a0 Ten years under the tutelage of\u00c2\u00a0Bill Belichick has to count for something. While that alone\u00c2\u00a0won’t\u00c2\u00a0make Mangini a successful head coach, the experience should help him in his transition from assistant to head coach.

\nIt is impossible to know how effective any coach\u00c2\u00a0will\u00c2\u00a0be once he attains the head position in the NFL.\u00c2\u00a0 I will take the pedigree and work ethic associated with Eric Mangini and hope for the best.\u00c2\u00a0 Maybe one day\u00c2\u00a0Jet fans everywhere can witness another world championship.<\/p>\n
