General Notes<\/strong><\/h3>\n

– An absolutely putrid effort by the Jets with the main culprits being\u00a0the defense and special teams.<\/p>\n

– A horrible display of discipline as the team committed 10+ penalties.\u00a0On offense most of them pinned the team back and destroyed drives. \u00a0On\u00a0defense the penalties extended drives and led to NYG points.<\/p>\n

Special Teams<\/strong><\/p>\n

– Good efforts by Lachlan Edwards (P) and Jason Myers (K) as they were .the only two players who didn’t screw up all night<\/p>\n

– Other than that there were mistakes in punt coverage, PAT and ball\u00a0security on kick off returns. \u00a0Inexcusable error by Charone Peake? as he\u00a0left his lane as a gunner which left the whole side of the field empty on\u00a0the TD return. \u00a0Poor discipline by Jonotthan Harrison on the PAT as he moved\u00a0early which led to Taylor Bertolet missing from 38. \u00a0Trenton Cannon must\u00a0show better ball security, that’s two muffed punts and a fumble on specials\u00a0in only two games. \u00a0In addition there were at least two other penalties\u00a0on kick off returns which took the offense out of good field position and\u00a0pinned them inside the 20. \u00a0A lot of players put themselves on the chopping\u00a0block with how they performed.<\/p>\n

\"AveryDefense<\/strong><\/p>\n

– Yes, the defense hasn’t given up a TD in the pre-season but they have\u00a0been softer than cotton. \u00a0They aren’t getting off the field on 3rd downs, the\u00a0offense is gaining too much in field position and controlling the clock. \u00a0If\u00a0the defense does stop them our offense is pinned back which causes them to be\u00a0conservative to protect a young QB.<\/p>\n

– The secondary gave up too many long receptions which flipped the field. \u00a0Some\u00a0of the culprits were Mo Claiborne, Juston Burris and Buster Skrine. \u00a0Jamal Adams\u00a0was one of the few players who had a strong game as he had a couple of TFL’s.<\/p>\n

– The ILB’s were good in run support and Avery Williamson had an absolute textbook\u00a0strip to cause a fumble. \u00a0The OLB’s had no impact and Jordan Jenkins had a killer\u00a0penalty on 3rd down which extended a drive in which NYG scored a FG. \u00a0Frankie Luvu\u00a0had a sack in the second half, can he develop into any kind of consistent edge\u00a0presence? \u00a0Because the pass rush has been missing in action.<\/p>\n

– The DLine was excellent in stopping the run but again brought no consistent\u00a0pressure. Leonard Williams was active with a fumble recovery (40 yards), TFL’s and\u00a0making plays up and down the line. \u00a0Henry Anderson was able to draw a couple of holding\u00a0penalties with his penetration into the NYG backfield.<\/p>\n

Offense<\/strong><\/p>\n

– Sharp performance by the offense early on as they were able to score two TD’s by\u00a0the start of the second quarter. \u00a0Nice wrinkle by Jeremy Bates in using three TE sets\u00a0to assist the OLine while still providing Sam Darnold with receivers.<\/p>\n

– The defense and special teams poor play had a direct impact on the offense. \u00a0Both\u00a0units caused the offense to be pinned back inside the 20 multiple times which led to\u00a0conservative play calling and zero production.<\/p>\n

– The OLine was solid in pass protection but inconsistent in run blocking.<\/p>\n

– Poor effort by Eric Tomlinson in blocking as he was hit with two penalties which\u00a0destroyed drives.<\/p>\n

– Nice to see Quincy Enunwa and Terrelle Pryor on the field and contributing. \u00a0Mixing\u00a0those two in with Robby Anderson and Jermaine Kearse should give Sam Darnold a good\u00a0corps of WR.<\/p>\n

– Sam Darnold remains on track to be the starter in my eyes. \u00a0He made a mistake by\u00a0drawing an intentional grounding penalty and the play clock got down to 1-2 seconds\u00a0a couple of times. \u00a0But when given good field position he led the team to two TD’s\u00a0by the start of the second quarter. \u00a0The defense has got to be better on 3rd down\u00a0to give Darnold the ball more times and in decent field position.<\/p>\n
