Here are some quick thought on the NY Jets preseason game vs the Washington Redskins.<\/p>\n

-Sluggish effort in all phases as it seemed a week of travel, practices and fights\u00a0carried over to the game.<\/p>\n

– A very soft defensive effort which allowed too many yards. \u00a0The good thing was they were\u00a0able to tighten up in the red zone and only give up FG’s.<\/p>\n

– There was no pressure from the standard pass rush and Bowles didn’t seem to dial up\u00a0many\/any blitzes. \u00a0The run defense was ok but there were mistakes that allowed a couple\u00a0of big runs (Darron Lee got washed out on one big gainer).<\/p>\n

– The tackling was nowhere near as clean as the ATL game and there were way too many\u00a0personal fouls. \u00a0Frankie Luvu has to clean up his technique, he brings the kind of\u00a0effort you want in applying pressure but you can’t give up multiple personal fouls.<\/p>\n

– Avery Williamson, Doug Middleton, Jordan Jenkins and for the first time as a Jet\u00a0Rashard Robinson flashed.<\/p>\n

– Offensively Bates worked around a banged up OLine and tried not to expose them and\u00a0the QB’s by keeping the passing game short & quick. \u00a0They allowed pressure though as WSH\u00a0got Jonotthan Harrison to whiff on one sack and forced Sam Darnold into another sack due\u00a0to coverage. \u00a0There was no consistent movement in the run game, the starters need to get\u00a0healthy and back into the lineup.<\/p>\n

– Sam Darnold impressed me more in this game than the ATL one. \u00a0He struggled in his first drive\u00a0with a three and out then recovered in his next two to move the ball into scoring territory.\u00a0In addition playing behind a makeshift OLine with pressure coming, he never seemed rattled.\u00a0He made good decisions with the ball and even the INT wasn’t a bad play. \u00a0On 4th down I\u00a0want my QB taking a shot at extending the drive rather than throwing the ball out of bounds\u00a0as one analyst suggested. \u00a0They do realize that if you don’t get the first down the ball is\u00a0being “turned over” anyway? \u00a0Darnold also improved getting the team in and out of the huddle as\u00a0he was able to get to the line with 12-15 seconds left on the clock.<\/p>\n

– Teddy Bridgewater played well and hopefully continues to increase his value. \u00a0Considering\u00a0the pressure he was under he showed good mobility in the pocket and his usual accuracy.\u00a0Bridgewater’s INT was bad because WSH CB had the vertical route covered he should have thrown\u00a0a back shoulder.<\/p>\n
