Jets to add Four new Faces, Retain McCown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jets General Manager Mike Maccagnan told his fan base that Gang Green would be active when free agency opened on Wednesday and through the first day and a half of the league&#8217;s legal tampering period, it was starting to look like Maccangan was going to eat his words.<\/p>\n<p>After being spurned by quarterback Kirk Cousins, who went to the Minnesota Vikings as expected, there wasn&#8217;t a lot of news out of Florham Park for several hours.\u00a0 However, once the signings started, it was going to be a long while before they stopped.<\/p>\n<p>It kicked off with a rumor that the Jets were <a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2018\/03\/13\/new-york-jets-report-jets-finalizing-deal-with-teddy-bridgewater\/\"><strong>hammering out a deal with veteran quarterback Teddy Bridgewater<\/strong><\/a>, who is now two years removed from a knee injury that threatened not only his career, but forced doctors to consider amputation at the time of his injury.\u00a0 Following a short delay, the two sides came to terms on a one-year deal.<\/p>\n<p>During that short delay in the Bridgewater deal, reports surfaced of another <a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2018\/03\/13\/new-york-jets-re-sign-mccown-to-1-year-deal\/\"><strong>one-year deal<\/strong><\/a> for the Jets&#8217; own free agent quarterback in Josh McCown.\u00a0 The deal is for 1-year at $10 million and creates more questions than answers.\u00a0 Having just seen the disastrous effects of putting two veteran quarterbacks in front of a rookie with Christian Hackenberg two seasons ago, the Jets seem to be set up to repeat that same mistake if they do in fact take a quarterback with their first-round pick in the upcoming draft.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_37023\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_6122.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-37023\" class=\"wp-image-37023\" src=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_6122-300x254.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"296\" srcset=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_6122-300x254.jpg 300w, https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_6122-600x508.jpg 600w, https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_6122-768x650.jpg 768w, https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_6122-1024x867.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_6122.jpg 1853w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-37023\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Josh McCown is returning to the Jets on a one-year $10 million deal..<\/p><\/div>\n<p>After addressing the quarterback position, the Jets stuck with offense and <a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2018\/03\/13\/new-york-jets-reportedly-set-to-sign-rb-crowell\/\"><strong>handed a three-year deal<\/strong><\/a> to former Cleveland Browns running back Isaiah Crowell.\u00a0 The signing created a bit of a stir on social media due to some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cleveland.com\/browns\/index.ssf\/2016\/07\/browns_say_isaiah_crowells_apo.html\"><strong>poor decisions<\/strong><\/a> in Crowell&#8217;s past, but from a pure football standpoint, the move makes sense.\u00a0 It gives the Jets a physical back and decreases the likelihood of the Jets using a draft pick on the position in April, allowing them to focus more on premium positions.<\/p>\n<p>Once the Crowell deal became public knowledge, Maccagnan and the Jets caught their biggest fish of the day, <a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2018\/03\/13\/schefter-jets-set-to-land-cb-trumaine-johnson\/\"><strong>adding former Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 It was a natural fit given his history with Jets current defensive backs coach Dennard Wilson as the two worked together with the Rams for several years.\u00a0 Johnson gives the Jets a true number one cornerback who thrives in press coverage.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-twitter\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Last season, Trumaine Johnson allowed a 34.8 passer rating on passes his way when in press coverage, while surrendering just 1 TD across 604 total coverage snaps <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Jets?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Jets<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; second go-around with the Jets to an abrupt ending, inside linebacker <a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2018\/03\/14\/ny-jets-set-to-sign-avery-williamson\/\"><strong>Avery Williamson agreed to terms<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0agreed on a 3-year deal worth $22.5 million ($16 million guaranteed) with the Jets after spending his first four pro seasons with the Tennessee Titans.\u00a0 Williamson is four-years younger than Davis and came in much lower than Davis&#8217;
