With the team committing to a rebuild, the “sting” of losses has been removed.\u00a0If yesterday’s collapse happened in previous years I would be fuming. \u00a0But this\u00a0team needs a long term answer at QB and every loss (even though I don’t root\u00a0for them) improves our draft position. \u00a0Lost in the wreckage of the MIA game\u00a0is some very encouraging performances but first let’s deal with the “elephants\u00a0in the room”:<\/p>\n
– Josh McCown’s warts are beginning to show. \u00a0Over the last two games (NE & MIA)\u00a0he has gotten off to hot starts and then allowed the offense to “brown out”.\u00a0Also in the last three games (CLE, NE & MIA) he’s thrown awful INT’s on out routes\u00a0to the sideline. \u00a0For a 38 year old QB his decision making in terms of who he targets\u00a0is failing and predictable. \u00a0Even the announcers (who were beyond bad) knew that on\u00a03rd down McCown always looks for Jeremy Kerley. \u00a0Why are Austin Seferian-Jenkins,\u00a0Jermaine Kearse, Matt Forte and Bilal Powell being forgotten? \u00a0Also, why did McCown\u00a0stop attacking Tankersley? \u00a0Early on everyone he was covering scorched him, MIA won\u00a0the game by attacking one player why didn’t he follow suit. \u00a0To me the clock on\u00a0replacing McCown has started to tick. \u00a0We have two games next week (ATL & BUF) I\u00a0wouldn’t be against moving onto Bryce Petty after that.<\/p>\n
– Buster Skrine was beyond awful. \u00a0Even the one pass he actually got his hands on\u00a0(the Stills juggling catch) he couldn’t knock away for an incompletion. \u00a0MIA comeback\u00a0was basically Moore throwing to anyone Skrine was covering and waiting for a big gain\u00a0or penalty. \u00a0Todd Bowles needs to show veterans less respect and bench them when they\u00a0are awful.<\/p>\n
– Impressive effort by the defense in stopping the run. \u00a0After shutting Ajayi down the\u00a0first time in NY you knew MIA would try to establish him and they couldn’t.<\/p>\n
– Darron Lee had his best game as a pro as he’s starting to “anticipate” instead of\u00a0“guess” on plays. \u00a0He used his speed to shoot gaps on running plays, make open field\u00a0tackles for minimal gains and come off the edge on blitzes. \u00a0Also he was a key part\u00a0in clogging up MIA running game. \u00a0He now needs to do this consistently and clean up\u00a0his penalties (roughing the passer & facemask).<\/p>\n
– Jordan Jenkins was excellent in setting the edge in the running game and applying\u00a0pressure to the QB (knocking Cutler out of the game).<\/p>\n
– Marcus Maye and Jamal Adams both had excellent games. \u00a0Maye with another INT and good\u00a0coverage as he plays centerfield. \u00a0Adams with well timed blitzes, creating a turnover\u00a0and TFL’s in the run game.<\/p>\n
– Eric Tomlinson needs to be recognized as the anti-Matthew Mulligan. \u00a0He’s under the\u00a0radar but Tomlinson is excellent in run blocking and whenever he’s thrown the ball he\u00a0makes big gains. \u00a0And he doesn’t commit killer penalties totally opposite of Mulligan.<\/p>\n
– Good to see Muhammad Wilkerson finally show up this year. \u00a0But one good game doesn’t\u00a0mean his contract will be picked up next March.<\/p>\n
– No complaints from me on Bowles going for the win with 47 seconds left and three time\u00a0outs. \u00a0McCown needs to make a better decision, how about a check down to the middle of\u00a0the field and an immediate timeout?<\/p>\n
– OLine must clean up their technique because they are killing the offensive flow with\u00a0pre-snap penalties, holds and a costly personal foul.<\/p>\n
