{"id":3779,"date":"2010-01-26T09:12:12","date_gmt":"2010-01-26T13:12:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=3779"},"modified":"2019-11-27T06:54:42","modified_gmt":"2019-11-27T10:54:42","slug":"hutch-has-some-player-updates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2010\/01\/26\/hutch-has-some-player-updates\/","title":{"rendered":"Hutch Has Some Player Updates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dave Hutchinson of the Star Ledger is reporting that safety Kerry Rhodes,\u00a0 Cornerbacks Lito Sheppard and Donald Strickland might not return next season.\u00a0\u00a0 It makes sense since Rhodes and Sheppard were benched at different times throughout the season and they both have large cap numbers.\u00a0 Strickland just couldn&#8217;t stay healthy, at times he played very well but was banged up all year long.<\/p>\n<p>Rex Ryan would be smart to check recent Jets history to make sure he can avoid the Pete Kendall mistake.\u00a0 That is cutting a player and not replacing him with a more talented player.\u00a0 Here are some other updates <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/jets\/index.ssf\/2010\/01\/kerry_rhodes_lito_sheppard_mig.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">from the article on NJ.com<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>K Jay Feely,<\/strong> an unrestricted free agent, says he hopes to return to the club.<\/li>\n<li><strong>LB Vernon Gholston\u2019s future with the team<\/strong> is uncertain even though the team still owes him nearly $11 million in guaranteed money. Gholston has no sacks in 29 career games. Some in the organization are ready to move on, especially if 2010 is an uncapped year and the club can absorb the salary cap hit.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Five assistant coaches<\/strong> didn\u2019t have their contracts renewed: assistant special teams coach Kevin O\u2019Dea, assistant defensive backs coach Doug Plank, assistant quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo, pass-rushing consultant Chuck Smith and quality control\/defense coach Brian Smith.
