There are no “moral victories” in sports you either win or lose. \u00a0So even though the\u00a0Jets put up a good fight their inability to take advantage of opportunities led to\u00a0a frustrating 24-17 loss. \u00a0An offensive “brown out” and an unbelievable TD reversal\u00a0that left me speechless were just some of the key plays, let’s take a look:<\/p>\n
– Josh McCown had his best statistical day and started out on fire. \u00a0But after getting\u00a0up 14-0 he allowed the offense to “brown out” on four drives before halftime:<\/p>\n
* Drive 1 – Seven yards on first down, two plays later they punt
\n* Drive 2 – Seven yards on first down, two plays later they punt
\n* Drive 3 – Eight yards on first down, two plays later they punt
\n* Drive 4 – Just before half time they are almost in FG range and he forces a throw
\nto Robby Anderson which leads to an INT. \u00a0A minute later the game is tied
\nat 14 instead of the Jets leading 17-7 at least<\/p>\n
It appeared as the game went along McCown focused more on Anderson than other receivers.\u00a0NE never had an answer for Jeremy Kerley, Jermaine Kearse, Austin Seferian-Jenkins and\u00a0the checkdown pass to the RB’s. \u00a0A more diverse approach may have helped continue the\u00a0momentum the offense had early on. \u00a0Also for a 38 year old QB it’s inexcusable to waste\u00a0two timeouts within three plays in the second half.<\/p>\n
– The OLine had no push in the running game, the pass protection was decent but with NE\u00a0having no speed in their front seven it should’ve been better. \u00a0The penalties have got\u00a0to be cleaned up they are committing too many “drive killers”.<\/p>\n
– Matt Forte is basically a “one trick pony” right now. \u00a0He’s still excellent in the screen\u00a0game but he shows no burst to the hole when running the ball. \u00a0Bilal Powell needs to get\u00a0healthy (when???) and the run game needs to be turned over to him and Elijah McGuire.<\/p>\n
– As stated before excellent games by Kerley, Kearse and Seferian-Jenkins they needed to\u00a0see more balls. \u00a0I didn’t want Kerley back because I wanted the young WR’s to get more reps\u00a0but he has been outstanding.<\/p>\n
– What’s to say about the Seferian-Jenkins TD reversal? \u00a0It’s like the review official was\u00a0looking to influence the game. \u00a0I could understand if the ball came out of his hands but\u00a0he bobbled it and re-gained possession. \u00a0Credit to Seferian-Jenkins for the way he handled\u00a0after the game, no whining or crying.<\/p>\n
– The defense did a good job early on holding NE in check and forcing two turnovers in the\u00a0first half. \u00a0But the DLine was bad in both run defense and generating pressure. \u00a0No impact\u00a0from Muhammad Wilkerson again and for a guy whose 6-3 and 330 Mike Pennel isn’t as stout\u00a0as I would expect from a NT.<\/p>\n
– Buster Skrine had an impactful game with an INT, a fumble recovery and decent coverage on\u00a0Hogan and Amendola. \u00a0But the INT that he dropped was a killer, it would’ve given the Jets\u00a0the ball at midfield with a 14-0 lead. \u00a0Instead a few plays later NE scores their first TD.\u00a0When you have NE making mistakes you have to take advantange.<\/p>\n
– Darron Lee flashed today with a forced fumble, a couple of nice open field tackles and\u00a0some nice coverage on NE RB’s. \u00a0But he has to have better ball awareness when trying to\u00a0cover Gronkowski.<\/p>\n
– Jamal Adams got his introduction to Gronkowski by giving up his first TD and just missing on\u00a0a PBU that would’ve prevented his second TD.<\/p>\n
– You have to love Ardarius Stewart’s aggresiveness on kick off returns but he has to learn\u00a0to stay in the end zone on “lob kicks”.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
