{"id":36699,"date":"2017-08-06T10:16:58","date_gmt":"2017-08-06T14:16:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=36699"},"modified":"2017-08-06T23:25:16","modified_gmt":"2017-08-07T03:25:16","slug":"new-york-jets-quincy-enunwa-injury-a-reminder-that-jets-shouldnt-have-dumped-decker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2017\/08\/06\/new-york-jets-quincy-enunwa-injury-a-reminder-that-jets-shouldnt-have-dumped-decker\/","title":{"rendered":"Enunwa Injury a Reminder That Jets Shouldn&#8217;t Have Dumped Decker"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jets fans at MetLife Stadium sat and looked on in fear last night, as the team&#8217;s number one wide receiver, Quincy Enunwa lay motionless on the turf just moments after what appeared to be just another incomplete pass. \u00a0That is, until Enunwa fell forward, landing on his face, appeared to be unable to get up. \u00a0Team trainers rushed to Enunwa&#8217;s side and spoke to him for what seemed like forever, but was realistically a few minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually, Enunwa would rise to a kneeling position before then standing up and slowly walking off to a cheering MetLife Stadium, back to the trainers room under his own power.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_36700\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_4717.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36700\" class=\"wp-image-36700\" src=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_4717-300x170.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"227\" srcset=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_4717-300x170.jpg 300w, https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_4717-scaled-600x340.jpg 600w, https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_4717-768x436.jpg 768w, https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_4717-1024x581.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-36700\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Team trainers attend to a laid out Quincy Enunwa.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As Enunwa walked off, there was a sense of relief, but the realization that an injury to their number one receiver would mean that any potential growth for the team&#8217;s signal callers could be stunted even further as the depleted receiving corps would be without their most experienced pass catcher, thanks to the off-season purge that saw the team cut ties with Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker.<\/p>\n<p>While Marshall requested his release from the Jets, it was cutting Decker that made little sense at the time, and makes even less sense now as the team waits to get a full report on Enunwa&#8217;s injury. \u00a0As of last night, it was said to be a recurring neck injury that slowed him earlier this off-season.<\/p>\n<p>Decker&#8217;s 2017 salary cost wasn&#8217;t prohibitive as the Jets currently sits at $20 million under the cap.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_36271\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/IMG_3699.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36271\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-36271\" src=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/IMG_3699-300x207.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"207\" srcset=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/IMG_3699-300x207.jpg 300w, https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/IMG_3699-scaled-600x415.jpg 600w, https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/IMG_3699-768x531.jpg 768w, https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/IMG_3699-1024x707.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-36271\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Jets said goodbye to Eric Decker late in the offseason.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The team was looking to develop a pair of young quarterbacks in Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty and Decker had produced on multiple occasions with far less than ideal situations at quarterback (Tim Tebow, Geno Smith). \u00a0In addition, his precise route running and ability to get open on quick slants and in routes would have been ideal for John Morton&#8217;s west coast offense.<\/p>\n<p>Once Decker was out of the picture, Enunwa was vaulted to the top of the Jets receiving corps in terms of career receptions with 80.
