On the most recent episode of Jet Nation Radio<\/a><\/strong>, an intriguing topic came up by our hosts Glenn Naughton and Joe Blewett.\u00a0 They spoke about our new rookie Chad Hansen and\u00a0veteran wide receiver Eric Decker. \u00a0A caller spoke about Hansen being the Decker 2.0 carbon copy.<\/p>\n

Can Chad Hansen be the next Eric Decker?<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

If Chad Hansen wants to improve his receiver skills, he should focus on\u00a0Eric Decker like a hawk.\u00a0 They are similar in stature and have familiar traits in playing style.\u00a0 Both show soft\u00a0hands and have a\u00a0large catch radius, even on errant throws. \u00a0Both\u00a0run block well, maintain\u00a0high-field awareness, and show toughness\u00a0catching\u00a0the ball in the\u00a0middle of the field.<\/p>\n

Where Decker excels & what Hansen needs to mimic is the ability to work through press coverage off the line. Eric has exceptional hand fighting skills and uses his\u00a0quickness in short areas to separate from cornerbacks.\u00a0 His precise route running makes up for his lack of deep speed.<\/p>\n

Coming into camp, Hansen has mostly been considered an outside vertical threat.\u00a0 He creates separation with his long speed on the boundary. \u00a0He can come over the top and\u00a0high point the football.\u00a0 According to Pro Football Focus, Hansen\u00a0was a perfect\u00a016 out of 16\u00a0on catchable deep targets over 20 yards or more.\u00a0 He tracks the deep ball well and can finish over the shoulder receptions with ease.<\/p>\n

I do believe there is more to Chad then being a deep-ball threat.\u00a0 His run blocking is impressive. \u00a0He delivers a nice punch and\u00a0locks his arms into defenders.\u00a0\u00a0In 2016, he\u00a0totaled\u00a0\u00a092 receptions, 1249 yards and\u00a011 TD’s which proves he can be utilized as the main target. \u00a0Chad is reliable in traffic on intermediate routes but sometimes lacks separation.\u00a0 He can be a bit stiff when coming in and\u00a0out of his breaks.\u00a0 They will have to create scheme diverse plays to get him the ball quickly.\u00a0 I can see them involving him in rub routes and\u00a0the screen game.\u00a0 Hansen has exceptional run\u00a0after the catch ability\u00a0on quick hits\u00a0and screens.<\/p>\n

With time, proper coaching, and Eric Decker as his mentor I think his potential to be an offensive weapon is promising.\u00a0 It will be very intriguing to see how John Morton utilizes him in the new\u00a0yet unknown offensive scheme.<\/p>\n
