{"id":32886,"date":"2016-07-10T17:28:57","date_gmt":"2016-07-10T21:28:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=32886"},"modified":"2016-07-10T17:28:57","modified_gmt":"2016-07-10T21:28:57","slug":"wilkerson-camp-expecting-last-minute-offer-from-jets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2016\/07\/10\/wilkerson-camp-expecting-last-minute-offer-from-jets\/","title":{"rendered":"Wilkerson Camp Expecting Last-Minute Offer from Jets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Glenn Naughton<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As the July 15th deadline approaches for Jet defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson to sign his <a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2016\/03\/01\/franchise-tag-for-muhammad-wilkerson\/\"><strong>one-year franchise tender<\/strong><\/a>, chances of the two sides working out a deal before that team appear bleak.<\/p>\n<p>The Jets have not made retaining Wilkerson among their top priorities over each of the past two off-seasons as they&#8217;ve doled out tens of millions of dollars on lesser players. \u00a0Their actions up to now would suggest the team views Wilkerson as more of a trade chip than a long-term asset.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Garafalo of the NFL spoke to members of Wilkerson&#8217;s camp who say they&#8217;re <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nfl.com\/videos\/nfl-videos\/0ap3000000673809\/Is-it-likely-Muhammad-Wilkerson-will-sign-long-term-deal?campaign=tw-nn-sf30624950-sf30624950\"><strong>expecting one final offer<\/strong><\/a> from the Jets before the deadline, but there are no guarantees that such an offer will come.<\/p>\n<p>Should the two sides fail to reach an agreement, a lengthy holdout for Wilkerson is likely to follow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Glenn Naughton &nbsp; As the July 15th deadline approaches for Jet defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson to sign his one-year franchise tender, chances of the two sides working out a deal before that team appear bleak.
