{"id":28741,"date":"2015-06-05T01:29:02","date_gmt":"2015-06-05T05:29:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=28741"},"modified":"2015-06-05T01:29:02","modified_gmt":"2015-06-05T05:29:02","slug":"offseason-minicamp-is-upon-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2015\/06\/05\/offseason-minicamp-is-upon-us\/","title":{"rendered":"Offseason Minicamp is Upon Us"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Jets are going to hold their mandatory minicamp on <a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/blog\/nflnation\/post\/_\/id\/165635\/2015-nfl-minicamp-and-ota-schedules\">June 9-11<\/a>, and this should provide fans and Todd Bowles a good look at their newly reconstructed team for 2015.\u00a0 Some of the things to look forward to:<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Return of Wilkerson:\u00a0 <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/nypost.com\/2015\/06\/03\/jets-in-no-rush-to-give-muhammad-wilkerson-an-extension\/\">Brian Costello<\/a> wrote that Muhammad Wilkerson plans to rejoin the team for mandatory minicamps, and will avoid being fined for his absence.\u00a0 This is music to the Jets, as they can now see how the defensive line will gel with each other for the first time.\u00a0 One of the most interesting stories for the 2015 season is how the Jets can mold their abundance of stars along the line into a unit that wrecks havoc on opposing QBs.\u00a0\u00a0 Rich Cimini, a fan favorite for his ability to squash moments of joy,\u00a0 however is <a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/blog\/new-york-jets\/post\/_\/id\/51703\/agent-jets-de-mo-wilkerson-undecided-on-whether-to-attend-minicamp\">reporting<\/a> that Wilkerson\u2019s agents have communicated that they are still undecided about attending camp.\u00a0 The saga of Wilkerson\u2019s offseason hopefully comes to an end next Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Compete With Magic?\u00a0 <\/strong>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsday.com\/sports\/football\/jets\/ryan-fitzpatrick-ready-to-take-over-if-geno-smith-falters-1.10505120\">competition<\/a> between Ryan Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith should be an interesting match during minicamp.\u00a0 Geno has had enough time to atleast learn the basics of the Chan Gailey system, while Fitzpatrick is slowly but surely recovering from his leg injury.\u00a0\u00a0 Geno is considered the No. 1 QB on the roster right now, but coach Bowles has made it clear that in the event of Fitzpatrick outplaying Smith, he won\u2019t hesitate to make a change.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amaro Injury:\u00a0 <\/strong>Jace Amaro left OTA with a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/jets\/index.ssf\/2015\/06\/undefined.html\">possible back injury<\/a>, although the severity of the injury has not been released.\u00a0 He was apparently running a route, when he <a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/blog\/new-york-jets\/post\/_\/id\/51655\/jace-amaro-injured-sheldon-richardson-absent-again-at-jets-latest-ota\">suddenly clutched his back<\/a>, and went to the sideline.\u00a0 Amaro, the second year TE, is the perceived No. 1 TE on the roster, and any extended absence could hurt the chemistry of a team that is trying to gel in a new offensive system.\u00a0\u00a0 It remains to be seen, how active Amaro will be, at minicamp.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Full Throttle:\u00a0 <\/strong>The Jets should have a full compliment of WRs available for the minicamp, and it\u2019ll be interesting to see how they line up and compliment each other.\u00a0 Brandon Marshall, the consensus No. 1 WR on the Jets, just had his contract <a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/blog\/new-york-jets\/post\/_\/id\/51601\/jets-retool-contract-of-wide-receiver-brandon-marshall\">retooled<\/a>, and should be ready to lead the unit out of mediocrity.\u00a0 Eric Decker and Jeremy Kerley, incumbents from last year\u2019s starting trio, should also see more running room with less attention focused on them.\u00a0\u00a0 How rookie Devin Smith fits into the team\u2019s plans can also be interesting, as Chan Gailey has a penchant for running 3 or 4 <a href=\"http:\/\/thejetsblog.com\/bga\/bga-learning-chan-gaileys-playbook\/\">WR sets<\/a> on a consistent basis.\u00a0 If Jace Amaro is limited, there is a chance that the team tries out more 4 WR sets with Smith on the field with the other three.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Running Back Battle:\u00a0 <\/strong>The battle for RB isn\u2019t as ballyhooed as the QB battle, but nevertheless an important competition to keep track of.\u00a0 Chris Ivory is the perceived favorite for the No. 1 role, but the battle behind him could be very interesting.\u00a0 Newcomers <a href=\"http:\/\/www.metro.us\/kristian-dyer\/earning-starting-role-will-be-difficult-task-for-jets-rb-zac-stacy\/zsJofc---yHHQSVhuZqhLU\/\">Zac Stacy <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/domcosentino\/status\/606136625316433921\">Stevan Ridley<\/a>, who hasn\u2019t been cleared yet from his ACL injury, may be fighting it out for the No. 3 position. Bilal Powell, the favorite to land the 3rd down back role on the team, should also see plenty of targets from the backfield, as the most accomplished receiver from the RB group.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Some quick tidbits from OTAs:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Willie Colon pleaded with Geno Smith to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nfl.com\/news\/story\/0ap3000000495280\/article\/willie-colon-on-geno-smith-he-has-keys-to-porsche\">not crash the Porsche<\/a>, while Bowles said he\u2019s not sure what type of car the team is right now.<\/li>\n<li>Coach Bowles has given the team the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/domcosentino\/status\/606533292599443457\">day off<\/a> for June 5th, the last day of OTAs.<\/li>\n<li>Antonio Cromartie is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/jets\/index.ssf\/2015\/06\/darrelle_revis_reacts_to_antonio_cromartie_ripping.html\">antagonizing<\/a> Richard Sherman, while Revis takes the high road.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cSnacks\u201d is no longer <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KristianRDyer\/status\/605384805438656513\">Snacks<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nfl.com\/videos\/nfl-top100-2015\/0ap3000000495507\/Top-100-Players-of-2015-No-55-Sheldon-Richardson\">Sheldon Richardson<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nfl.com\/videos\/nfl-top100-2015\/0ap3000000495499\/Top-100-Players-of-2015-No-57-Brandon-Marshall\">Brandon Marshall<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nfl.com\/videos\/nfl-top100-2015\/0ap3000000493663\/Top-100-Players-of-2015-No-74-Muhammad-Wilkerson\">Muhammad Wilkerson<\/a> have made it to the NFL top 100 list, with presumably Darrelle Revis as the only other player left to possibly make the list.<\/li>\n<li>Team execs are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/jets\/index.ssf\/2015\/06\/jets_executive_leonard_williams_like_a_christmas_g.html\">excited about<\/a> Leonard Williams.<\/li>\n<li>The Jets have signed WR <a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2015\/06\/01\/new-york-jets-add-undrafted-receiver-johathon-rumph\/out-Jonathon-Rumph-37546660\">Jonathan Rumph<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is certainly an exciting time to see the full team come together and practice for a couple of days, as the dearth of football information can be tough to take after the free agency frenzy.\u00a0 All the competitions and battles should be interesting, but most of all, the Jets hopefully come out of the minicamp without any more
