{"id":28603,"date":"2015-05-20T09:40:15","date_gmt":"2015-05-20T13:40:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=28603"},"modified":"2015-05-20T09:40:15","modified_gmt":"2015-05-20T13:40:15","slug":"woody-johnson-new-york-jets-muhammad-wilkerson-looking-for-deal-that-works-for-both-sides","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2015\/05\/20\/woody-johnson-new-york-jets-muhammad-wilkerson-looking-for-deal-that-works-for-both-sides\/","title":{"rendered":"Woody Johnson: Jets, Wilkerson Looking for Deal That &#8220;Works for Both Sides&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Glenn Naughton<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While Muhammad Wilkerson&#8217;s absence from\u00a0this week&#8217;s\u00a0organized team activities (OTA&#8217;s) will naturally generate some buzz among fans and media, Jets owner Woody Johnson\u00a0says that there is still dialogue between Gang Green and Wilkerson&#8217;s reps as they look for a solution that &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/sports\/football\/jets\/jets-owner-kraft-best-decision-patriots-article-1.2228317\">works for both sides<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this offseason, Wilkerson opted to <a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2015\/04\/06\/wilkerson-absent-from-jets-workouts-new-york-jets-muhammad-wilkerson-mike-maccagnan\/\">take a pass<\/a> on the team&#8217;s workouts in round one of what will hopefully be a civil re-negotiation process\u00a0between\u00a0Gang Green and\u00a0the four-year pro out of Temple.<\/p>\n<p>Arguably New York&#8217;s best draft pick since Darrelle Revis, Wilkerson has played at a high level since being selected with the 30th overall selection in the 2011 draft.<\/p>\n<p>In his brief pro career, he has managed to rack up 24.5 sacks, 21.5 of which have come in the last three seasons despite playing on the end of a base 3-4 scheme with a shaky secondary over each of the past two seasons.\u00a0 Jets fans are hoping the <a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2015\/03\/19\/with-secondary-settled-jets-shift-attention-to-linebackers-new-york-jets-mike-maccagnan\/\">settled secondary<\/a> will lead to more production from Wilkerson and company up front.<\/p>\n<p>As one would expect, neither side has discussed any figures publicly, but Wilkerson is said to be seeking a contract similar to the six-year deal <span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nfl.com\/news\/story\/0ap3000000393653\/article\/rams-robert-quinn-signs-sixyear-656m-contract\">Robert Quinn<\/a><\/span> got from the St. Louis Rams that included $41 million in guarantees.<\/p>\n<p>Currently Wilkerson is said to be working out on his own, while his representatives and GM Mike Maccagnan work the phones.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Glenn Naughton &nbsp; While Muhammad Wilkerson&#8217;s absence from\u00a0this week&#8217;s\u00a0organized team activities (OTA&#8217;s) will naturally generate some buzz among fans and media, Jets owner Woody Johnson\u00a0says that there is still dialogue between Gang Green and Wilkerson&#8217;s reps as they look for a solution that &#8220;works for both sides&#8220;.
