The big man has also been applauded for his work <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/10\/13\/sports\/football\/jets-willie-colon-tends-his-south-bronx-roots.html?_r=0\">within the community<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0Even with that being the case,\u00a0fans are\u00a0more concerned with his on-field performance.<\/p>\n<p>In sixteen starts this past season, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.profootballfocus.com\/\">PFF.com<\/a>, Colon&#8217;s run blocking was uncharacteristically poor but that still\u00a0didn&#8217;t stop the Jets from finishing\u00a0third in the NFL with 142.5 yards per game while averaging 4.5 YPC, good enough for a fifth place tie.<\/p>\n<p>Despite allowing just one sack in pass protection, the former Pittsburgh Steelers fourth round selection did allow 20 quarterback hurries\u00a0tying him for tenth among NFL guards who played at least 700 snaps.\u00a0 Even still, quarterback Geno Smith averaged more time from snap to throw than any QB in the NFL, so as a unit the protection was better than many\u00a0 may realize, with Colon earning the highest grade among Jets linemen.<\/p>\n<p>Colon&#8217;s return creates a log jam at the guard position that\u00a0should\u00a0\u00a0mean a training camp completion to determine the eventual starters.\u00a0 Having signed Seahawks free agent <a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2015\/03\/10\/gang-green-inks-lineman-carpenter-james-carpenter-mike-maccagnan-todd-bowles\/\">James Carpenter<\/a> along with last year&#8217;s starters at LG in Brian Winters and Oday Aboushi, second year man\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2014\/12\/24\/jets-dozier-worth-a-look-in-finale\/\">Dakota Dozier<\/a>\u00a0rounds out a group that will hopefully take a step forward in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Glenn Naughton New York Jets offensive lineman Willie Colon sent out this tweet today in letting Jets fans know that he&#8217;ll be back in green and white for the 2015 season.
