{"id":27985,"date":"2015-03-13T04:31:45","date_gmt":"2015-03-13T08:31:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=27985"},"modified":"2022-04-01T03:03:01","modified_gmt":"2022-04-01T07:03:01","slug":"marcus-gilchrist-joins-revamped-ny-jets-secondary-new-york-jets-marcus-gilchrist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2015\/03\/13\/marcus-gilchrist-joins-revamped-ny-jets-secondary-new-york-jets-marcus-gilchrist\/","title":{"rendered":"Report: Marcus Gilchrist Latest to Join Revamped Jets Secondary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Glenn Naughton<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Continuing their free agent spending spree, the New York Jets have reportedly come to terms with former San Diego Chargers safety Marcus Gilchrist.\u00a0 Terms of the deal are\u00a0unknown at this time.\u00a0 According to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RapSheet\/status\/576217178040459264\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NFL.com&#8217;s Ian Rapoport<\/a><\/strong>, Gilchrist is expected to sign with the\u00a0Jets\u00a0sometime today.<\/p>\n<p>Gilchrist joins cornerbacks <a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2015\/03\/12\/jets-welcome-back-cromartie-new-york-jets-antonio-cromartie-dee-milliner-dexter-mcdougle\/\">Antonio Cromarite<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2015\/03\/10\/darrelle-revis-returns-new-york-jets-darelle-revis-dee-milliner-todd-bowles\/\">Darrelle Revis\u00a0<\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2015\/03\/10\/ny-jets-sign-cb-buster-skrine\/\">Buster Skrine<\/a> as gang green&#8217;s latest additions to a secondary that&#8217;s going to look vastly different from the one that surrendered 31 touchdown passes last season.<\/p>\n<p>A fourth year player out of Clemson, the 5&#8242; 10&#8221; 198 lb Gilchrist brings youth and versatility as a college cornerback who was later converted to safety by the Chargers.\u00a0\u00a0Gilchrist has also been utilized as a nickel corner from time to time in San Diego&#8217;s defensive scheme.<\/p>\n<p>The former second round pick brings a great deal of speed (<a href=\"http:\/\/nflcombineresults.com\/playerpage.php?f=Marcus&amp;l=Gilchrist&amp;i=6203\">4.45 40<\/a>) to the position and has registered three forced fumbles to go along with three interceptions since taking on the starting role in San Diego in 2013 when he finished third on the team with 77 tackles.<\/p>\n<p>Gilchrist and second-year safety Calvin Pryor will likely man the middle of the Jets&#8217; defensive backfield with Pryor appearing to be the only returning starter from last year&#8217;s group.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Glenn Naughton &nbsp; Continuing their free agent spending spree, the New York Jets have reportedly come to terms with former San Diego Chargers safety Marcus Gilchrist.\u00a0 Terms of the deal are\u00a0unknown at this time.\u00a0 According to NFL.com&#8217;s Ian Rapoport, Gilchrist is expected to sign with the\u00a0Jets\u00a0sometime today.
