{"id":27913,"date":"2015-03-11T12:05:31","date_gmt":"2015-03-11T16:05:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=27913"},"modified":"2022-04-01T03:04:07","modified_gmt":"2022-04-01T07:04:07","slug":"jets-land-qb-hoyer-new-york-jets-brian-hoyer-geno-smith-mike-maccagnan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2015\/03\/11\/jets-land-qb-hoyer-new-york-jets-brian-hoyer-geno-smith-mike-maccagnan\/","title":{"rendered":"Jets Land QB Fitzpatrick"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Glenn Naughton<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The New York Jets have agreed to a trade with the Houston Texans to acquire quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick in exchange for a late round conditional\u00a0draft pick.\u00a0The ten-year veteran\u00a0was made available by the Texans following their\u00a0addition of quarterbacks Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett.<\/p>\n<p>Since naming Chan Gailey offensive coordinator in January, he and Fitzpatrick were linked <a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2015\/01\/20\/jets-get-their-man-announce-gailey-offensive-coordinator-new-york-jets-chan-gailey-woody-johnson-todd-bowles\/\">almost immediately<\/a> due to their history.\u00a0 Gailey was the head coach of the Buffalo Bills when Fitzpatrick strung together three of his best seasons as a pro from 2010-2012.\u00a0 With Gailey calling the shots in Buffalo, the former seventh round pick threw 71 touchdowns to go along with 54 interceptions while completing 60% of his passes.<\/p>\n<p>Fitzpatrick offers a significant upgrade over incumbent Geno Smith, who in two NFL seasons has thrown 25 touchdowns and 34 interceptions while completing just 57.5% of his passes.<\/p>\n<p>In his last five seasons as a starter, Fitzpatrick has completed at least\u00a060% of his\u00a0attempts in four of those while\u00a0totaling 102 touchdown passes\u00a0to\u00a074 interceptions. The veteran touchdown totals have\u00a0always outnumbering his interceptions during that time, something Jets quarterbacks have managed to do just three times over the past seven seasons.<\/p>\n<p>Given his superior performance and history with Gailey, one would expect Fitzpatrick to be ahead of\u00a0Smith on the depth chart come opening day\u00a0but that remains to be seen.<\/p>\n<p>The acquisition of Fitzpatrick is the latest in a <a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/blog\/new-york\/jets\">flurry of moves<\/a> by the Jets as they continue to make significant strides toward playoff contention just one year after a disastrous 4-12 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Glenn Naughton &nbsp; The New York Jets have agreed to a trade with the Houston Texans to acquire quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick in exchange for a late round conditional\u00a0draft pick.\u00a0The ten-year veteran\u00a0was made available by the Texans following their\u00a0addition of quarterbacks Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett.
