{"id":27803,"date":"2015-02-19T17:10:46","date_gmt":"2015-02-19T21:10:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=27803"},"modified":"2022-04-01T03:05:40","modified_gmt":"2022-04-01T07:05:40","slug":"jets-first-round-pick-could-come-down-to-cooper-vs-white-new-york-jets-kevin-white-or-amari-coope","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2015\/02\/19\/jets-first-round-pick-could-come-down-to-cooper-vs-white-new-york-jets-kevin-white-or-amari-coope\/","title":{"rendered":"Jets 1st Round Pick Could Come Down to White vs Cooper"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AceFan23\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>By Glenn Naughton<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With the NFL combine underway, draft season has officially arrived.\u00a0 Over the next two-plus months, stories, rumors, speculation and leaks will be flooding the internet as armchair GM&#8217;s chime in on how teams around the NFL should spend their draft picks.<\/p>\n<p>For the New York Jets, the needs are plenty and their current draft slot is high as they sit at number six overall.\u00a0\u00a0 Roughly seventy days away from the draft and\u00a0early on\u00a0the Jets have been linked to\u00a0a slew of players.\u00a0Two of those players are wide receivers Amari Cooper of Alabama and Kevin White out of West Virginia.\u00a0 Both would be logical choices to team up with Eric Decker, Jeremy Kerley, and Jace Amaro\u00a0 if the Jets do in fact <a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2015\/02\/11\/report-new-york-jets-to-cut-percy-harvin\/\">part ways with WR Percy Harvin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With that in mind, JetNation.com\u00a0takes a look\u00a0\u00a0at Cooper and White, comparing their size, overall college production, and signature performances, to go along with some opinions from NFL insiders.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Size:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cooper- 6&#8242; 1&#8221;, 210 lbs<\/p>\n<p>White- 6&#8242; 3&#8221;, 219 lbs<\/p>\n<p><strong>College Production: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cooper- In 38 career college games, Cooper hauled in 228 passes for 3,463 yards and 31 touchdowns at Alabama, a staggering percentage was a result of an incredible 2014 for the Junior from Miami, FL.\u00a0 He led the nation with 124 catches for 1,727 yards in 2014, finishing second in touchdowns with 16.\u00a0 As a result, Cooper was named SEC offensive player of the year, and also received the Fred Biletnikoff award, given to the nation&#8217;s top receiver.<\/p>\n<p>White- Having played fifteen fewer college games than Cooper, White&#8217;s\u00a0career\u00a0numbers of 144\/1,954\/15 are dwarfed by Cooper&#8217;s output, but don&#8217;t let the numbers fool you.\u00a0 White, along with Cooper, was one of the best offensive players in the country last season.\u00a0 At\u00a0West Virginia, he logged\u00a0 1,447 yards on 109 catches to go along with\u00a010 touchdowns.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Signature Performance:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cooper- Against Auburn University in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nfl.com\/news\/story\/0ap3000000435971\/article\/amari-cooper-leads-iron-bowl-comeback-5544\">Iron Bowl<\/a>, Cooper came up huge in a 55-44 Alabama\u00a0victory.\u00a0His 13 catches for 224 yards and three touchdowns\u00a0played a huge role in the two teams setting the all-time combined scoring record in the 45 year history of the Iron Bowl.<\/p>\n<p>White- Big time players step up in big games, and in West Virginia&#8217;s 2014 matchup against no.\u00a04 Baylor, White turned in one of his best performances of the season.\u00a0 Facing a Baylor defense that held opposing quarterbacks to\u00a0a under 55% completion percentage and fewer 265 yards per game through the air,\u00a0White proved to be\u00a0too much to handle.\u00a0\u00a0His\u00a0\u00a08 catches for\u00a0132 yards and\u00a02 touchdowns led the Mountaineers to their biggest win of the season as they\u00a0upset Baylor by a score of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/boxscores\/2014-10-18-west-virginia.html\">41-27<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What Scouts are Saying:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Cooper:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Mike Mayock in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.al.com\/sports\/index.ssf\/2015\/02\/west_virginia_wr_kevin_white_h.html\">recent teleconference <\/a>in discussing Cooper said, &#8220;I think Cooper from Alabama has got the highest score,&#8221; Mayock said. &#8220;In other words, I think he&#8217;s the safest pick of that group. Really good route runner, had over 100 catches last year, reminds me of some of those wide outs that played on the Greatest Show on Turf with Dick Vermeil in St. Louis, Torry Holt, for example, that type of wide receiver,<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">White:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Mayock continued his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.al.com\/sports\/index.ssf\/2015\/02\/west_virginia_wr_kevin_white_h.html\">comments regarding White <\/a>however, saying &#8220;My number one wide receiver is <strong>Kevin White <\/strong>from West Virginia,&#8221; the analyst said. &#8220;I think I know what <strong>Amari Cooper<\/strong> is, what a great football player he is. But I have <strong>Kevin White <\/strong>above him because I think he&#8217;s got a higher ceiling. I think his potential is greater. He&#8217;s 6-foot-3, 219 pounds, but I want to know what he runs.
