{"id":27618,"date":"2015-01-18T17:14:16","date_gmt":"2015-01-18T21:14:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=27618"},"modified":"2022-04-01T03:08:24","modified_gmt":"2022-04-01T07:08:24","slug":"jets-accused-of-tampering-by-patriots-woody-johnson-new-york-jets-darrelle-revis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2015\/01\/18\/jets-accused-of-tampering-by-patriots-woody-johnson-new-york-jets-darrelle-revis\/","title":{"rendered":"Jets Accused of Tampering by Patriots"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Glenn Naughton<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Jets&#8217; season may have ended several weeks ago but it looks like they&#8217;ll be getting ready to take on the New England Patriots sooner than expected.<\/p>\n<p>The Jets&#8217; bitter rival has filed <a href=\"http:\/\/profootballtalk.nbcsports.com\/2015\/01\/18\/patriots-file-tampering-charges-against-the-jets\/\">tampering charges<\/a> against owner Woody Johnson and his team stemming from comments he made during his post-season press conference to discuss the firing of head coach Rex Ryan and general manager John Idzik.<\/p>\n<p>At one point during Johnson&#8217;s question and answer session with the media, he was asked\u00a0to comment on the Jets&#8217; history with cornerback Darrelle Revis, their reluctance to pursue him this past 0ff-season, and his thoughts on a possible Revis return.<\/p>\n<p>With Revis still being under contract with the Patriots, Johnson&#8217;s best course of action would have been to cite the leagues stance on tampering. \u00a0However, Johnson acknowledged a desire to have Revis return to the Jets, and later <a href=\"http:\/\/profootballtalk.nbcsports.com\/2014\/12\/29\/woody-johnson-says-he-misspoke-when-he-tampered-with-revis\/\">backpedaled<\/a>. \u00a0Later that day, a statement was released in which Johnson said he had misspoken in regards to Revis and added that he&#8217;d contacted Patriots owner Robert Kraft to clarify his comments.<\/p>\n<p>Kraft, it would appear, was unmoved by Johnson&#8217;s apology and feels the Jets violated a clear league rule and does not want it to go un-checked. \u00a0Per NFL.com, league rules state the following in regards to tampering:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Any public or private statement of interest, qualified or unqualified, in another club&#8217;s player to that player&#8217;s agent or representative, or to a member of the news media, is a violation of the Anti-Tampering Policy.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It seems that some form of punishment from the league is expected, but the severity is unknown at this time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Glenn Naughton &nbsp; The Jets&#8217; season may have ended several weeks ago but it looks like they&#8217;ll be getting ready to take on the New England Patriots sooner than expected.
