{"id":2406,"date":"2009-05-15T00:15:16","date_gmt":"2009-05-15T05:15:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=2406"},"modified":"2019-11-28T08:07:36","modified_gmt":"2019-11-28T12:07:36","slug":"colts-offensive-coaches-retire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2009\/05\/15\/colts-offensive-coaches-retire\/","title":{"rendered":"Colts Offensive Coaches Retire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/profootballtalk.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ProFootballTalk.com<\/a> is reporting that the Colts are going to be without a few assistants next season.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Colts offensive line coach Howard Mudd and offensive coordinator Tom Moore have filed their retirement papers, the Indianapolis Star reports.<\/p>\n<p>The news comes from owner Jim Irsay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve made it through a number of transitions in the past and we\u2019ll make it through this one,\u2019\u2019 Irsay said. \u201cI\u2019m very pleased with the direction we\u2019re headed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The reason(s) for the moves still aren\u2019t completely clear. Though the Colts haven\u2019t and won\u2019t be opting out of the league-run pension plan, multiple league sources have told us that the ability of coaches over the age of 65 to take their retirement benefits as a lump sum could be jeopardized if the plan collectively falls below 80-percent funding.<\/p>\n<p>Another league source disagrees. \u201cFederal law requires the plans to be 80-percent funded,\u201d the source said. \u201cAnd the plan certainly doesn\u2019t discriminate against someone based on age. If you\u2019re vested, you\u2019re vested and the team has paid in for you. Everyone takes the lump sum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, another source tells us that Mudd\u2019s retirement relates to his interpretation of the pension issue (correct or incorrect), but that Moore wanted to go when coach Tony Dungy retired, and that Moore has seized upon the pension issue as a way to avoid appearing disloyal.<\/p>\n<p>Bottom line?
