Kotwica took over for former coach Mike Westhoff (2001-2012) after his retirement. I had an opportunity to ask coach Westhoff early in the season if he\u2019d ever return to the sideline, \u201cI don\u2019t think so,\u201d he replied. With the Jets special teams coaching vacancy Westhoff might be revisiting a potential return as he currently works as an ESPN New York radio analyst.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Another member of the Jets 2013 coaching staff who has moved on is linebacker coach Brian VanGorder accepting a position as the defensive coordinator for the University of Notre Dame. The Jets filled the VanGorder&#8217;s job from within promoting Bobby April III, who was the team&#8217;s defensive quality control coach last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Other then Kotwica and VanGorder the team&#8217;s coaches will remain very similar to last season. The Jets have retained defensive line coach <a href=\"http:\/\/profootballtalk.nbcsports.com\/2014\/01\/18\/anthony-lynn-karl-dunbar-will-remain-on-jets-coaching-staff\/\">Karl Dunbar<\/a> as he oversaw one of the strengths of the team coaching a young talented defensive front.\u00a0 Assistant head\/running backs coach Anthony Lynn was also brought back.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorkjets.com\/news\/article-randylangeblogfb\/Rex-Ryan%E2%80%99s-%E2%80%9914-Coaching-Staff-Almost-Set\/8db4f0ee-91b0-43f4-8a6f-dde261d74888\">NewYorkJets.com<\/a> a majority of the 2014 coaching staff is set with minimal changes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Thirteen more coaches also return from this past season&#8217;s staff.<\/p>\n<p>Here is Ryan&#8217;s current Jets coaching staff:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Offensive Coordinator<\/strong>\u2014 Marty Mornhinweg<br \/>\n<strong>Defensive Coordinator<\/strong>\u2014 Dennis Thurman<br \/>\n<strong>Assistant Head Coach\/Running Backs<\/strong>\u2014 Anthony Lynn<br \/>\n<strong>Assistant Special Teams<\/strong>\u2014 Louie Aguiar<br \/>\n<strong>Linebackers<\/strong>\u2014 Bobby April III<br \/>\n<strong>Offensive Line<\/strong>\u2014 Mike Devlin<br \/>\n<strong>Defensive Line<\/strong>\u2014 Karl Dunbar<br \/>\n<strong>Head Strength &amp; Conditioning<\/strong>&#8211; Justus Galac<br \/>\n<strong>Tight Ends<\/strong>\u2014 Steve Hagen<br \/>\n<strong>Assistant Offensive Line<\/strong>\u2014 Ron Heller<br \/>\n<strong>Wide Receivers<\/strong>\u2014 Sanjay Lal<br \/>\n<strong>Quarterbacks<\/strong>\u2014 David Lee<br \/>\n<strong>Defensive Backs<\/strong>\u2014 Tim McDonald<br \/>\n<strong>Assistant Strength &amp; Conditioning<\/strong>\u2014 Pierre Ngo<br \/>\n<strong>Assistant Strength &amp; Conditioning<\/strong>\u2014 Paul Ricci<br \/>\n<strong>Assistant Defensive Backs<\/strong>\u2014 Brian Smith<br \/>\n<strong>Assistant Defensive Line\/Linebackers<\/strong> \u2014 Jeff Weeks<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The stability in the 2013-14 coaching staff is a change from what occurred after the <a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2013\/01\/15\/ny-jets-hemorrhaging-coaches\/\">2012 season<\/a> as there was a lot of turnover with assistant coaches.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Apparently general manager John Idzik and head coach Rex Ryan are satisfied with the performance of their assistant coaches developing players and much of the staff decided to remain rather than pursue other opportunities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since the New York Jets organization decided head coach Rex Ryan would remain through the 2014 season there&#8217;s been speculation that many of Ryan\u2019s staff would need to be replaced as a number of assistant coaches contracts had expired.
