{"id":17860,"date":"2013-01-29T13:54:37","date_gmt":"2013-01-29T17:54:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=17860"},"modified":"2013-01-29T17:50:36","modified_gmt":"2013-01-29T21:50:36","slug":"jets-explore-ex-raiders-qb-russell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2013\/01\/29\/jets-explore-ex-raiders-qb-russell\/","title":{"rendered":"Jets Explore Ex-Raiders QB Russell"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to reports the New York Jets have been exploring the possibility of bringing in former Oakland Raiders quarterback <a href=\"http:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/blogs\/nfl-shutdown-corner\/jets-had-exploratory-internal-discussions-jamarcus-russell-153906810--nfl.html\">JaMarcus Russell<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Russell was the number 1 overall pick of the Raiders in 2007 and became the poster boy for the more stringent<a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2012\/05\/21\/the-rookie-wage-system-part-two-positives-and-potential-problems\/\"> rookie wage system<\/a> in the new NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement.\u00a0 After holding-out into his rookie season Russell eventually signed a $61 million deal with Oakland, going 7-18 as a starter, with 18 touchdowns, 23 interceptions, a completion percentage of 52 and quarterback rating of 65 during 3 seasons with the team.<\/p>\n<p>Always seeming to be out of shape and overweight Russell was released by the Raiders in May 2010 then arrested in July of that year for possession of a controlled substance.\u00a0 He was contemplating a return to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comcastsportsnet.com\/landing?blockID=604522&amp;tagID=8694\">Louisiana Swashbucklers<\/a> of the Professional Indoor Football League in December 2011 since he played collegiately at Louisiana State University but never signed with the club.<\/p>\n<p>Currently weighing over 300 pounds and not having played professionally since 2009 Russell would be a long shot at making an NFL comeback but the \u201clook under any rock\u201d philosophy apparently still applies to the Jets even with the departure of Mike Tannenbaum.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE:<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rotoworld.com\/player\/nfl\/4154\/jamarcus-russell\"> ProFootballTalk&#8221;s<\/a> Mike Florio is reporting the Jets are not interested in JaMarcus Russell:<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-twitter\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I&#39;m told the Jets have no interest in JaMarcus Russell.
