Done deal. Negotiations are complete.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JasonLaCanfora\/status\/292377922063437825?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 18, 2013<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>According to the Seahawks media guide Idzik had been with the club since 2007 and had a myriad of contract and player personnel responsibilities:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Idzik oversees player negotiations, the team\u2019s compliance with the NFL salary cap, player personnel transactions, all football operations budgets, staff and team contracts, team travel and most aspects of the day-to-day football operations while also remaining active in player evaluations.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Idzik\u2019s candidacy was not only helped by the Seahawks making the playoffs this season but the team is considered to be comprised of young talented players. \u00a0The new GM has some family<a href=\"http:\/\/www.seahawks.com\/team\/staff\/John-Idzik\/f304b1c8-4fdb-49a7-b810-c4b074b07c45\"> roots<\/a> with the Jets as Idzik\u2019s father, John also, was an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/coaches\/IdziJo0.htm\">assistant<\/a> coach for the Jets from 1977-79.<\/p>\n<p>The incoming general manager will have to deal with many pressing issues facing the club from what to do with quarterbacks Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow, to tight finances and overall talent evaluations.\u00a0 \u00a0Idzik needs to get right to work with the Senior Bowl, which showcases premier players entering the draft, just around the corner.<\/p>\n<p><em>New York Jets fans are sounding off on this move in the <a href=\"http:\/\/forums.jetnation.com\/topic\/109362-john-idzik-named-jets-gm-merged\/\">Jets Nation forum<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Following up on a JetNation report, New York Jets have a new general manager. \u00a0Former Seattle Seahawks vice president of administration John Idzik will be the Jets new GM: The Jets have hired John Idzik, formerly of the Seahawks, as their new GM.
