{"id":17621,"date":"2013-01-13T02:51:09","date_gmt":"2013-01-13T06:51:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=17621"},"modified":"2013-01-13T02:56:02","modified_gmt":"2013-01-13T06:56:02","slug":"ny-jets-widen-search-for-general-manager-and-offensive-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2013\/01\/13\/ny-jets-widen-search-for-general-manager-and-offensive-coach\/","title":{"rendered":"NY Jets Widen Search For General Manager And Offensive Coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the firings of general manager Mike Tannenbaum and offensive coordinator Tony Sparano the Jets are continuing to interview possible replacements.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019ve <a href=\"http:\/\/profootballtalk.nbcsports.com\/2013\/01\/12\/jets-considering-russ-ball-too\/\">looked<\/a> at Green Bay\u2019s front office to fill their vacant GM job with Packers vice president of football administration and player finance Russ Ball already having interviewed.\u00a0 The Jets showed interest in John Dorsey, Packers director of football operations, but as expected he <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rotoworld.com\/player\/nfl\/1354\/chiefs-offense\">landed<\/a> the Kansas City Chiefs GM position.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Several <a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2013\/01\/10\/candidates-to-fill-vacant-ny-jets-gm-position-sinking-fast\/\">other <\/a>candidates are in the mix to replace the former Jets GM Tannenbaum:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dolphins assistant general manager Brian Gaine.<\/li>\n<li>Former Chicago Bears GM Jerry Angelo.<\/li>\n<li>Giants <a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2013\/01\/02\/new-york-jets-in-gm-holding-pattern\/\">director<\/a> of college scouting Marc Ross.<\/li>\n<li>49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble.<\/li>\n<li>Steelers director of football and business administration Omar Khan.<\/li>\n<li>Montreal Alouettes general manager <a title=\"CFL\u2019s Jim Popp Would Be NY Jets Best GM Option\" href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2013\/01\/10\/cfls-jim-popp-would-be-ny-jets-best-gm-option\/\">Jim Popp<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Seahawks vice president of football administration John Idzik.<\/li>\n<li>Jets assistant general manager Scott Cohen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The Jets have been lining up potential replacements for the offensive coordinator position:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/jets\/index.ssf\/2013\/01\/jets_offensive_coordinator_can.html\">Former<\/a> Oakland Raiders head coach now currently an assistant with the Cincinnati Bengals Hue Jackson was the quarterbacks coach of the Baltimore Ravens from 2008-09 and has ties to Jets head coach Rex Ryan.\u00a0 Unfortunately Jackson is being <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rotoworld.com\/player\/nfl\/2351\/panthers-offense\">strongly<\/a> considered to take over for former Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski who left to become head coach of the Cleveland Browns or being promoted within the Bengals organization if current offensive coordinator Jay Gruden gets a head coaching position.<\/p>\n<p>Current Stanford offensive <a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/blog\/new-york\/jets\/post\/_\/id\/20049\/report-jets-will-interview-stanford-oc?utm_source=twitterfeed&amp;utm_medium=twitter\">coordinator<\/a> Pep Hamilton is in the running:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Hamilton has no coordinator experience on the NFL level, but he worked as a quarterbacks coach with the Jets (1994-1995), 49ers (2006) and Bears (2007-2009). He has been at Stanford since 2010, coaching wide receivers, quarterbacks (Andrew Luck) and ascending to the coordinator job in 2011.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><b>Source: ESPN New York\/Rich Cimini<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Former Ravens offensive coordinator and Miami Dolphins head coach Cam Cameron is scheduled for an interview.\u00a0 Cameron had an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/teams\/mia\/2007.htm\">unimpressive<\/a> 1-15 record during his only season as a head coach and was <a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/blog\/afcnorth\/post\/_\/id\/60982\/ravens-fire-cam-cameron\">dismissed<\/a> from the Ravens as offensive coordinator towards the end of this past year.<\/p>\n<p>Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg is <a href=\"http:\/\/profootballtalk.nbcsports.com\/2013\/01\/11\/report-marty-mornhinweg-candidate-for-jets-offensive-coordinator\/\">reportedly<\/a> set to interview but the Eagles, along with former head coach Andy Reid, relied heavily upon the pass and given the current state of the offensive roster Mornhinweg\u2019s pass first offense may not be the best fit.<\/p>\n<p>It does not look as if recently fired San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner, a former offensive coordinator and named often <a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/new-york\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/8807346\/new-york-jets-made-decision-tony-sparano-yet-according-report\">mentioned<\/a> to fill the Jets vacancy, will be interviewing with the team as he is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cleveland.com\/browns\/index.ssf\/2013\/01\/cleveland_browns_coach_rob_chu.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=twitter\">likely<\/a> to end up with the Cleveland Browns coordinator job.<\/p>\n<p>The Jets did promoted secondary coach Dennis Thurman to fill their defensive coordinator position with <a href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2013\/01\/08\/new-york-jets-part-ways-with-oc-sparano\/\">Mike Pettine<\/a>, who refused a contract extension, leaving to take the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rotoworld.com\/player\/nfl\/2268\/bills-defense\">same<\/a> position with the Buffalo Bills.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With the firings of general manager Mike Tannenbaum and offensive coordinator Tony Sparano the Jets are continuing to interview possible replacements.
