{"id":15437,"date":"2012-09-25T16:24:11","date_gmt":"2012-09-25T20:24:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=15437"},"modified":"2012-09-25T16:24:11","modified_gmt":"2012-09-25T20:24:11","slug":"jets-sign-rb-grimes-from-texans-practice-squad-tryout-veteran-cb-carr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2012\/09\/25\/jets-sign-rb-grimes-from-texans-practice-squad-tryout-veteran-cb-carr\/","title":{"rendered":"Jets sign RB Grimes From Texans Practice Squad; Tryout Veteran CB Carr"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Jets have made a roster move today <a href=\"http:\/\/profootballtalk.nbcsports.com\/2012\/09\/25\/jets-sign-running-back-off-texans-practice-squad\/\">signing<\/a> undrafted running back Jonathan Grimes (5\u201910\u201d, 201) off of the Houston Texans practice squad to their 53-man roster.\u00a0 Grimes <a href=\"http:\/\/stats.washingtonpost.com\/cfb\/players.asp?id=167442\">rushed <\/a>for over 1,400 yards with a 5.0 yards-per-carry average along with 23 receptions for 262 yards during his senior season at William &amp; Mary.<\/p>\n<p>He also had a productive <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rotoworld.com\/player\/nfl\/8209\/jonathan-grimes\">preseason<\/a> in Houston with a 4.64 yards-per-carry average and six receptions for 58 yards but veteran RBs Arian Foster and Ben Tate already entrenched the Texans placed Grimes on their practice squad.\u00a0 By adding him to their 53-man roster the Jets are able to sign Grimes away from the Texans.<\/p>\n<p>With featured RB Shonn Greene <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nfl.com\/player\/shonngreene\/79563\/profile\">averaging <\/a>only 2.8 yards-per-carry this season adding the talented Grimes along with the emergence of second year RB Bilal Powell (4.0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nfl.com\/player\/bilalpowell\/2495328\/profile\">yards<\/a>-per-carry) might be seen as attempt to limit Greene\u2019s role in the rushing offense.<\/p>\n<p>According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News the Jets are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/blogs\/jets\/2012\/09\/jets-to-bring-in-free-agent-cornerback-chris-carr-for-tryout-this-week-sign-rb-jonathan\">trying out<\/a> veteran cornerback Chris Carr in an attempt to add some needed depth with the <a title=\"Revis Out For Season\" href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2012\/09\/24\/revis-out-for-season\/\">loss<\/a> of CB Darrelle Revis for the season:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In an effort to bolster a secondary that will be without All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis for the rest of the season, the Daily News has learned that the Jets will bring in veteran Chris Carr for a tryout this week. Carr, 29, was in Vikings\u2019 camp before being one of the final cuts last month.<\/p>\n<p>Carr worked out for the Patriots two weeks ago.
