{"id":14650,"date":"2012-08-28T19:26:54","date_gmt":"2012-08-28T23:26:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=14650"},"modified":"2022-04-01T02:42:20","modified_gmt":"2022-04-01T06:42:20","slug":"jason-smith-renegotiates-contract-to-match-hunters-cap-number","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2012\/08\/28\/jason-smith-renegotiates-contract-to-match-hunters-cap-number\/","title":{"rendered":"Jason Smith Renegotiates Contract To Match Hunter&#8217;s Cap Number"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The trade of offensive linemen Wayne Hunter to the Rams for Jason Smith has become official being cleared by the NFL.\u00a0 When the deal was first reported it seemed as if the Jets would be incurring Smith&#8217;s current <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/blogs\/jets\/2012\/08\/jets-trade-right-tackle-wayne-hunter-to-the-rams-for-jason-smith\">guaranteed salary <\/a>of $4 million this season while Hunter had a salary of $2.45 million.<\/p>\n<p>The Rams and Smith renegotiated his contract for the 2012 season before the trade was completed.\u00a0 The Rams changed $1.55 million of Smith\u2019s guaranteed base salary into a signing bonus leaving him with a guaranteed base salary of $2.45 million, which the Jets now acquire, matching that of Hunter.\u00a0 So the Jets did not use any additional cap space bringing in Smith.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-twitter\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">League source: Jason Smith signed a deal with Rams before 4pm with $1.55M SB.
