{"id":12748,"date":"2012-05-28T01:06:55","date_gmt":"2012-05-28T05:06:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=12748"},"modified":"2012-05-28T21:36:48","modified_gmt":"2012-05-29T01:36:48","slug":"jets-news-and-notes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2012\/05\/28\/jets-news-and-notes\/","title":{"rendered":"Jets News and Notes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The following is a recap of some of the top stories surrounding the Jets:<\/p>\n<h2>Sources say the team may not be finished acquiring veteran players:<\/h2>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rotoworld.com\/player\/nfl\/3929\/rocky-mcintosh\">Roto-World<\/a>, linebacker Rocky McIntosh (29) was invited to pay the Jets a visit.\u00a0 Last season McIntosh started 8 games with 65 tackles for the Washington Redskins.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>CBS Sports NFL analyst Jason La Confora announced via Twitter the Jets were interested in former Minnesota Vikings tight end Visanthe Shiancoe. \u201cThe Jets have been checking on Shiancoe, and want 2 mobile TE sets,\u201d La Confora tweeted.\u00a0 The Jets could use some veteran help at the position\u00a0since there&#8217;s\u00a0little depth behind Dustin Keller.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of tight ends, undrafted rookie Brian Linthicum (Michigan State) told <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freep.com\/article\/20120502\/SPORTS07\/205020379\/michigan-state-football-brian-linthicum-jets\">George Sipple of the Detroit Free Press <\/a>that he chose the Jets over other teams based upon his potential starting role per conversations with coaches:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>(Linthicum) was down to the Rams, Panthers and Jets.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The tight ends coach and the offensive coordinator that I spoke with made it very clear what I would be working for,&#8221; Linthicum said of his talks with the Jets. &#8220;I felt confident with that.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They&#8217;re wanting me to compete for the starting Y position. Every offense has a Y tight end and an F tight end. Dustin Keller is the starting F tight end, more of a receiving tight end, slot-type guy. Then every offense has a Y tight end &#8230; on the line blocking, but can also get out in space and make catches.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Legendary Jets <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/jets\/index.ssf\/2012\/05\/joe_namath_calls_jets_qb_mark.html\">quarterback Joe Namath <\/a>recently weighed in on the Sanchez\/Tebow debate at the United Way Gridiron Gala charity event, attended by Jet-Nations <a title=\"NY Jets Partner With The United Way NYC\" href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2012\/05\/17\/ny-jets-partner-with-the-united-way-nyc\/\">Courtney Aurillo<\/a>.\u00a0 Namath made it known that Mark Sanchez was the best choice to lead the team this season:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Joe Namath \u2026 left no uncertainty about which quarterback on the Jets roster he thinks is best.<\/p>\n<p>The legendary Jets quarterback called Mark Sanchez \u201csensational\u201d and \u201cmuch better\u201d than back-up Tim Tebow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no doubt about it, there\u2019s no doubt about it at all,\u201d Namath said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Source: Newark Start Ledger\/Jenny Vrentas<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Originally <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.nydailynews.com\/2012-05-15\/news\/31714320_1_joe-namath-tim-tebow-woody-johnson\">critical of the trade Namath <\/a>now sees positives in the Tebow acquisition, although he still supports Sanchez as the starter:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Joe Namath allowed that the Jets\u2019 addition of quarterback Tim Tebow was a positive, but he did not hesitate when stating that Mark Sanchez, the incumbent starter, was new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano\u2019s best option under center.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBring on the competition,\u201d Namath said of this summer\u2019s training camp. \u201cTebow is a positive any way you add him to your organization.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Source: NY Daily News\/Kevin Armstrong<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It seems as if everyone has to get \u201ctheir two cents\u201d in on Sanchez v. Tebow.\u00a0 This time it was <a href=\"http:\/\/profootballtalk.nbcsports.com\/2012\/05\/25\/mark-sanchezs-agent-thinks-sanchez-will-outperform-tebow\/\">Sanchez\u2019s agent Brian Murphy <\/a>taking a jab at Tebow via Twitter after it was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/jets\/index.ssf\/2012\/05\/mark_sanchez_appears_sharp_con.html\">reported Sanchez performed better <\/a>in a recent team practice:<\/p>\n<p>[tweet_embed id=205745150662684672]<\/p>\n<p>Murphy tried to explain that his original tweet was not a shoot at Tim Tebow in another tweet:<\/p>\n<div lang=\"en\">\n<blockquote>\n<div><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/A1Murph\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/si0.twimg.com\/profile_images\/1763390621\/image_normal.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/> Brian Murphy @<strong>A1Murph<\/strong> <\/a><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Didn&#8217;t mean to create a stir nor disrespect TT who has done nothing but excel on football field. This is my opinion and time will tell. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/A1Murph\/statuses\/205770893799071744\">24 May 12 <\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It appears an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nypost.com\/p\/sports\/jets\/broncos_pros_helping_jets_rookie_EDBXO9MgzYmdRONphxrs2J\">old teammate is mentoring <\/a>Jets rookie wide receiver Stephen Hill.\u00a0 Current Denver Broncos receiver Demaryius Thomas and Hill both played together at Georgia Tech.\u00a0 Thomas is trying to use his two years of NFL experience to help Hill transition to the pro game:\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p>When the Jets drafted Stephen Hill in the second round last month, the speedy wide receiver received a text message from Broncos receiver Demaryius Thomas.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongratulations, it ain\u2019t going to be easy,\u201d it read.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s (Hill) like my little brother,\u201d Thomas said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hill said Thomas and Lions receiver Calvin Johnson, another Georgia Tech alum, have served as mentors to him. Johnson did not play in Paul Johnson\u2019s triple-option attack, though. Thomas has experienced the transition Hill is now going through.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The biggest challenge for Hill will be adjusting to NFL coverages. In college, teams would load eight men in the box to stop the Yellow Jackets\u2019 rushing attack. Now he will see zone looks that are completely different.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[He (Thomas) said] just make sure you stay in the playbook,\u201d Hill said. \u201cWe actually have coverages in the playbook to make sure we know what\u2019s going on. He told me to ask questions of guys in the locker room because you\u2019ve got to find answers.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hill has listened.
