{"id":12706,"date":"2012-05-24T19:04:19","date_gmt":"2012-05-24T23:04:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jetnation.com\/?p=12706"},"modified":"2012-05-24T19:07:54","modified_gmt":"2012-05-24T23:07:54","slug":"recapping-the-jets-otas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2012\/05\/24\/recapping-the-jets-otas\/","title":{"rendered":"Recapping The Jets OTA&#8217;s"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Jets continued their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/jets\/index.ssf\/2012\/05\/mark_sanchez_outplays_backup_q.html\">organized team activities (OTA<\/a>) today and was the first practice open to the media while both Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow were on the field.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The team is working hard to implement Tony Sparano\u2019s new offensive system\u00a0and Coach Rex Ryan likes what he sees, \u201cThe tempo I think is the first thing that jumps out at me.\u00a0 Your putting in a brand new system on offense \u2026 we\u2019re working at a fast pace.\u201d \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The team took part in 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills, which included newly signed first round draft pick <a title=\"Jets Sign First Round Draft Pick Quinton Coples\" href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2012\/05\/17\/jets-sign-first-round-draft-pick-quinton-coples\/\">Quinton Coples <\/a>practicing with the first team.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The highlight of the day was a 75 yard touchdown catch by Stephen Hill from Sanchez.<\/p>\n<p>Tebow throw two interceptions one to Bart Scott the other to Yeremiah Bell but Coach Ryan said despite the picks Tebow is learning, \u201c(Tebow) had some ups and downs, he had a couple of picks today \u2026 I think he\u2019s done well \u2026 for everybody it\u2019s a new offense you\u2019re trying to learn some basic things \u2026 he has a good grasp of it\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both Jenny Vrentas\/Star Ledger and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/blogs\/jets\/2012\/05\/jets-quarterback-mark-sanchez-shines-to-wrap-up-first-week-of-otas\">Manish Mehta\/NY Daily <\/a>News felt Sanchez was the best quarterback today:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Sanchez looked pretty sharp (and in case you were wondering, was the best quarterback on the field), Vrentas reported.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Sanchez was clearly the best quarterback on the field on Thursday, Mehta wrote.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s (Sanchez) stronger I think than he\u2019s ever been, he\u2019s in great shape,\u201d Ryan responded when asked about Sanchez. \u201cThat arm looks stronger to me \u2026 he\u2019s really zipping it he\u2019s also throwing with touch \u2026 I really like the way he is throwing the football.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI put a lot of pressure on myself and I think you guys know that everybody in the building knows that, that I want to make it right for me and for this team,\u201d Sanchez said after practice.\u00a0 \u201cWhether we have Matt Simms, Kinne, McElroy or it happens to be Tim Tebow behind me that\u2019s fine, it doesn\u2019t matter.\u00a0 I\u2019m playing hard and trying to get this thing right for all of us in here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tebow said of his experience thus far, \u201cIt\u2019s been a lot of fun we\u2019re out there every day working extremely hard trying to push each other, trying to have fun.\u00a0 Greg\u2019s (McElroy) been doing a great job, Matt (Simms) and G.J. (Kinne) have been working hard, so we\u2019ve been enjoying it,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked about the process of learning the offense Tebow responded, \u201cI think it is good because we are all on the same page, we\u2019re all learning every day, installing new things every day.\u00a0 All trying to help each other grasp this new offense and trying to execute it out there, so it\u2019s new for everyone we\u2019re all trying to understand it \u2026 all of us are on the same page with things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ryan had praise for Bart Scott feeling last year\u2019s \u201cdisappointment\u201d was behind him, \u201cBart\u2019s ready to be Bart Scott \u2026 Bart would tell you that he had a disappointing year last year \u2026 (he) wants to have a great year this year and I think you see that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Muhammad Wilkerson was also mentioned as a player ready to make a \u201cjump\u201d by Coach Ryan, \u201cThey\u2019re not content with just being a good football player, which obviously he (Wilkerson)\u00a0was last year, but I think he sees himself doing more things than that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ryan mentioned missing the playoffs as motivation for Sanchez not the presence of Tebow, \u201cNot being in the playoffs I think stung everybody and motivated us, drives us, Sanchez I think that is the greatest motivator there is.\u00a0 Hungry for being in the postseason I think is the biggest driving force we have.\u201d\u00a0 When pressed Ryan said only Sanchez could say if Tebow \u201cmotivates\u201d him but added, \u201cWe\u2019re excited that Tim Tebow is here \u2026 their (Sanchez and Tebow) good teammates \u2026 and they are good for our football team in general.\u00a0 They\u2019re both very competitive guys.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked if he was concerned\u00a0using Tebow as the punt protector Ryan said, \u201cI can tell you one guy who is not afraid of it, Tim Tebow, and I\u2019m not afraid of it either.\u00a0 I think what he can help us with being that personal protector of the punt team, are you really sure, you really want to rush that punt? \u2026 Tim gives you that inside running presence outside running presence he can throw it \u2026 I have a feeling he\u2019ll go down and tackle somebody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ryan said that Tebow specific \u201cWildcat\u201d plays will be installed in the future, \u201cThat won\u2019t be until later, you\u2019re talking about wildcat stuff \u2026 right now were installing base offenses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been in more offensive meetings than I probably was all last year, just going around to different groups,\u201d Ryan responded about his promised to become more involved with all aspects of the team. \u00a0\u201cI\u2019m going to be in meetings more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Coach Ryan explained his offensive philosophy,\u00a0\u201cI think for us to be successful as a team we have be able to run the football \u2026 but that has to be who we are \u2026 that is going to be part of our identity.\u201d He added the deep pass would be a factor in the offense, \u201cWe\u2019re going to run vertical routes, a lot of vertical routes\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re excited to get him (Landry) up to speed hopefully by training camp,\u201d Ryan responded about his safety group.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019m really happy with Yeremiah Bell and Eric Smith out there \u2026 I like the looks of that first group with Eric and Yeremiah Bell looks tremendous to me \u2026 looking forward to getting LaRon Landry here, get him healthy, that would be outstanding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The following players were<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/jets\/index.ssf\/2012\/05\/mark_sanchez_outplays_backup_q.html\"> absent or limited <\/a>during OTA\u2019s:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Absent from today&#8217;s voluntary OTA<\/strong> were <strong>S LaRon Landry<\/strong> (his own decision), <strong>WR Santonio Holmes<\/strong> (in Germany supporting the troops) and <strong>CB Antonio Cromartie<\/strong> (spending Memorial Day weekend with family).
