Tebow debate isn\u2019t going away anytime soon.\u00a0 There have been several Jets players, including Darrelle Revis, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/blogs\/jets\/2012\/05\/darrelle-revis-calls-tim-tebow-a-born-leader\">making favorable comments<\/a> about Tebow:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>One week before the Jets begin voluntary Organized Team Activities, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>(Darrelle) Revis<\/strong><\/span> lauded Tebow for his innate leadership and passion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s a born leader,\u201d Revis said on Wednesday. \u201cHe really is. Very few athletes have the gift that he has. He tries to lead by example all the time and he tries to be positive, which is awesome. I think that results (in) his success on the field. He came in with Denver and did unbelievable. And now he\u2019s with us. We\u2019re happy. We\u2019re excited for him. We\u2019re happy (that) he\u2019ll bring his leadership qualities to this team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can tell\u2026 He\u2019s a very passionate guy,\u201d left guard <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Matt Slauson<\/span><\/strong> said. \u201cHe works extremely hard. Everything he does, he does a 100 percent. So he\u2019s a lot of fun to watch in the weight-room.<br \/>\n\u2026 He meshes really well with all the guys.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Revis maintained that Tebow\u2019s presence as a leader is visible in all corners of the team facility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome people have it. Some guys don\u2019t,\u201d Revis said. \u201cIt\u2019s the passion within\u2026 of him wanting to be a leader, wanting to win. You see it in him all the time\u2026 eating lunch. Walking down the hallway you see it. He\u2019s just one of those guys. He\u2019s very positive. He has passion for what he does and you could see it. You can see it on him when you have a conversation with him. He\u2019s just a leader.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou could see that at every level, he was a leader and he stepped up and did what he had to do as a quarterback,\u201d Revis added.<\/p>\n<p>The All-Pro cornerback summed it up by saying that Tebow had the \u201cIt\u201d factor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe makes plays. He wins games. That\u2019s it,\u201d Revis said. \u201cAs a teammate, it\u2019s kind of different. You actually get to see him every day\u2026. When you\u2019re competing against somebody and you don\u2019t know the person, you only see what you see on film. You don\u2019t know him as a person. When you get to know him as a person, you have way more respect for the person and you appreciate the guy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>(Bart) Scott<\/strong><\/span> had joked with reporters that he wasn\u2019t talking since these were \u201cvoluntary workouts.\u201d But offered this as he walked away: \u201cYes\u2026 I love Tebow.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Source: NY Daily News\/Manish Mehta <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year an anonymous\u00a0player told <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/blogs\/jets\/2012\/04\/dustin-keller-and-mark-sanchez-work-out-with-santonio-holmes-in-orlando\">Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News <\/a>that receiver Santonio Holmes would be calling for Tebow if Sanchez plays poorly at the start of the season:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Although Holmes didn&#8217;t want to discuss the state of the Jets two weeks ago, including the recent acquisition of Tim Tebow, one of the NFL players that trains with the wide-out (Holmes) made it clear that he didn&#8217;t have a preference whether Tebow or Sanchez was under center.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He didn&#8217;t really care (about the Tebow trade),&#8221; the player said. &#8220;&#8216;Tone just wants the ball.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said it\u2019s all on Sanchez this time,\u201d the player added. \u201cIf Sanchez trips (up), then he\u2019ll be on the bench going, \u2018Tebow! Tebow!\u2019 like everyone else.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/blog\/new-york\/jets\/post\/_\/id\/12497\/weatherford-rips-sanchez\">ESPN\u2019s Rich Cimini <\/a>interviewed former Jet, now Giants, punter Steve Weatherford asking his opinions on Mark Sanchez.\u00a0 The article&#8217;s title \u201cSteve Weatherford rips Mark\u00a0Sanchez\u201d might indicate that Weatherford\u00a0had harsh\u00a0words\u00a0about his former teammate:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I like Mark &#8212; I think he&#8217;s a very talented quarterback &#8212; but from my standpoint, I haven&#8217;t seen a lot of maturation,&#8221; said Weatherford, making the media rounds this week because the Giants received their Super Bowl rings. &#8220;When you&#8217;re a quarterback and you come in, and you&#8217;re expected to be the face of the franchise, and you&#8217;re expected to lead the team\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s a lot to take on as a rookie. But as the years go on, I think you&#8217;re expected to mature, skill-wise, and also mature as a leader, and to be honest with you, as much as I like the guy, I just haven&#8217;t seen that.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Weatherford did not take kindly to the \u201cspin\u201d which Cimini choose to put on his article, so he decided to fight back via Twitter:<\/p>\n<p>[tweet_embed id=203584051888668673]<\/p>\n<p>[tweet_embed id=203582980076216321]<\/p>\n<p>[tweet_embed id=203549083208663040]<\/p>\n<p>These responses set off a \u201cTwitter War\u201d as some tweeters felt <a href=\"http:\/\/jetsrant.com\/2012\/05\/19\/fans-spew-venom-at-rich-cimini-online-beat-writer-fights-back-on-twitter\/\">Cimini\u2019s article was malicious and unfair<\/a>.\u00a0 Cimini often responded that he was just reporting what Weatherford had said.<\/p>\n<p>There has been much speculation about wide receiver Santonio Holmes after he appeared to quit on the team at the end of last season.\u00a0 An apparent fractured relationship with quarterback Mark Sanchez and other teammates made some wonder if Holmes would give a complete effort this year.\u00a0 New receivers coach <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nypost.com\/p\/sports\/jets\/holmes_run_lR14JPwHchnZpXNnEGfDjM\">Sanjay Lal praised Holmes <\/a>for his positive attitude, helping \u201ctutor\u201d younger players, while appearing \u201cvery eager\/competitive\u201d during offseason workouts:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cA lot of things I had read or been told occur every day on every NFL sideline,\u201d Lal said. \u201cThey\u2019re just not shown. I can honestly say I\u2019ve had to manage receivers between plays, between series, very similar things. It truly is because the good ones are so competitive they just want the ball. What makes them good is that quality, so there is frustration attached to it at times.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lal spoke with Holmes a few times after taking the job, but they could not discuss football until the offseason program began in April. For the past five weeks, Lal has gotten to watch Holmes work up close. Lal said Holmes has been, \u201cvery eager, very football-hungry, very competitive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The coaches have been able to work with the players on the field for the last three weeks. Other than Holmes, the Jets receivers are very inexperienced. Lal has leaned on Holmes to tutor the younger players.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe loves coaching technique as much as I do,\u201d Lal said. \u201cSo, when we go out there he\u2019ll take his rep and then he\u2019ll help with the technique with the rest of the guys. He knows what I\u2019m looking for. He sees it a lot through my eyes and I see it through his eyes. It\u2019s a good synergy I\u2019d say.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Source: NY Post\/Brian Costello<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Holmes\u2019 former coach, when he was with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and current CBS analyst <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/jets\/index.ssf\/2012\/05\/bill_cowher_jets_wr_santonio_h.html\">Bill Cowher commented <\/a>on the receivers passion and how Homes will move on from last year\u2019s disappointment:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Although 2011 ended in disastrous fashion, (Bill) Cowher thinks the wide-out (Holmes) can rebuild is reputation this season:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think emotions run high, you get to the sideline and people do things that, in hindsight, they wish they hadn&#8217;t done,&#8221; the former Steelers coach said \u2026 \u00a0&#8220;It&#8217;s a very emotional game and at times it lends yourself to doing things that, you know, that may not be the appropriate thing to do at those times.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Santonio, he&#8217;d be the first one to tell you that he&#8217;d have liked to handle that a little differently, but he&#8217;s a guy that&#8217;s going to but it beside him, he&#8217;s a very good football player, I think he&#8217;s very committed. He likes to work at it and he&#8217;s ready to move on to this year.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Source: Newark Star Ledger\/Conor Orr\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Jets recently signed former <a title=\"Jets Add Veteran Safety Former Dolphin Yeremiah Bell\" href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2012\/05\/18\/jets-add-veteran-safety-former-dolphin-yeremiah-bell\/\">Dolphin\u2019s safety Yeremiah Bell <\/a>along with free agent acquisition LaRon Landry and drafted Josh Bush and Antonio Allen, that makes four news safeties added this year.\u00a0 With a total of six safeties currently on the roster some have speculated that this is the end of Jim Leonhard\u2019s career as a Jet:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Bell\u2019s signing could dim the chances of a reunion between the Jets and Jim Leonhard, who is still a free agent as he rehabs from a season-ending patellar tendon tear. Leonhard said last month that he and his representatives have had \u201cgood conversations\u201d with the Jets, as well as a few other teams<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Source: Newark Star Ledger\/Jenny Vrentas <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Jet Nation Interviews Safety Jim Leonhard\" href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2012\/04\/14\/jet-nation-interviews-safety-jim-leonhard\/\">Jet-Nation interviewed Leonhard <\/a>as well and while he was positive about his return from injury \u201creading between the lines\u201d one could sense the Jets hadn\u2019t shown much interest.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nypost.com\/p\/sports\/jets\/saved_by_the_bell_8SnmD5c7daTPr3gSNtigJJ\">Brian Costello <\/a>of the New York Post, Bell along with Landry, are already \u201cpenciled in\u201d as starting safeties at the moment:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Jets entered this offseason looking to improve at safety. They believe they took another step toward doing that yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The team agreed to a one-year, $1.4 million deal with veteran safety Yeremiah Bell, according to sources.<\/p>\n<p>The Jets view him (Bell) as a starting safety opposite LaRon Landry, another free agent acquisition they made in March.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Jets announced they have a new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/jets\/index.ssf\/2012\/05\/jets_name_jeff_bauer_director.html\">Director of College Scouting, Jeff Bauer<\/a>, replaces Joey Clinkscales who took a job with the Raiders.\u00a0 The team also hired Kevin Kelly to be an area scout:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Jets have promoted Jeff Bauer, a former area scout for the team, to director of college scouting.<\/p>\n<p>Bauer replaces Joey Clinkscales, who left for a position as the Raiders&#8217; director of player personnel earlier this month. A former letterman at Iowa State, Bauer is entering his 12th season with the Jets and has spent 11 years scouting the Midwest.<\/p>\n<p>The Jets also hired Kevin Kelly as an area scout. Kelly was previously an area scout for the Colts (2009-11) and the Browns (2001-08).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Source: Newark Star Ledger\/Jenny Vrentas<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As reported by Jet-Nation is appears that nose tackle <a title=\"Jets Sign Seventh Round Pick Safety Antonio Allen; Ellis Accepts Plea Deal Will Not Be Deported\" href=\"https:\/\/miletestsite.com\/jets\/2012\/05\/17\/jets-sign-seventh-round-pick-safety-antonio-allen-ellis-accepts-plea-deal-will-not-be-deported\/\">Kenrick Ellis\u2019 legal problems<\/a>, along with possible deportation are behind him, but the NFL will investigate if Ellis violated the leagues \u201cPersonal Conduct Code\u201d which could lead to a suspension:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Kenrick Ellis may have to answer to the NFL as well.<\/p>\n<p>The second-year defensive tackle, who agreed to a reduced charge of misdemeanor assault and battery from an incident that occurred while he was a student at Hampton (Va.) University, is subject to the league&#8217;s personal-conduct policy.<\/p>\n<p>The timing of the incident is a factor to be considered, but it is subject to review, a league spokesman said Saturday in an e-mail to ESPNNewYork.com. If a player is found to be in violation of the personal-conduct policy, he could be slapped with a fine and\/or a suspension.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Source: ESPN\/Rich Cimini<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>New defensive line coach Karl Dunbar is excited at the prospects of using the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/jets\/index.ssf\/2012\/05\/jets_defensive_line_coach_karl.html\"> 46 defense <\/a>made famous by Rex Ryan\u2019s father Buddy Ryan, who Dunbar coached under.\u00a0 Dunbar feels the 46 defensive alignment will allow the Jets to gain favorable one-on-one match-ups as their personnel complements this defense perfectly:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Dunbar said the Jets used the (46) formation \u201ca bunch\u201d last year and plan to use it even more \u2014 \u201cas much as we can\u201d \u2014 in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to play a lot of that 46 defense,\u201d Dunbar said with a grin. \u201cYou get in that 46 defense, you\u2019re going to get a lot of one-on-one blocks, and when we put athletic guys on the field, bad things happen for the offense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 46 defense is one variation of a 4-3 front, with four down linemen and eight men in the box.
