Jets 2011 starting safety Jim Leonhard\u2019s season was cut short by an unfortunate knee injury.\u00a0 Leonhard is currently an unrestricted free agent but news of his health and contract talks with the Jets have been relatively quiet.<\/p>\n

Leonhard was known as the \u2018quarterback\u2019 of the secondary, often setting the type of coverage to be used.\u00a0\u00a0The Jets are thin at the safety position\"\"<\/a> and while most fans would love to see him in the green and white his injury status is a cause for concern.\u00a0 I recently had an opportunity to ask him a few questions regarding his health and possible future with the Jets:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Q: How is the rehabilitation on your injured knee coming along?<\/strong><\/p>\n

A:<\/strong> Rehab is doing great.\u00a0 It\u2019s a process obviously but no setbacks up to this point, so we\u2019re looking forward to getting this going.<\/p>\n

Q: How do you see yourself going into the season, do you think you\u2019ll be able to start the season or will you have to maybe miss a portion?<\/strong><\/p>\n

A:<\/strong> At this point I see no reason, why I wouldn\u2019t be back at the beginning of the season, (with) the timeline they have given me.\u00a0 Like I said, the way things have been going, I feel comfortable saying I\u2019ll be back at the beginning of the year.<\/p>\n

Q: It\u2019s an important year, you\u2019re a free agent, and obviously Jets fans want you to come back.\u00a0 As far as the negotiations go what are you open to and what are you really looking for?<\/strong><\/p>\n

A:<\/strong> I\u2019m open to a lot of things right now.\u00a0 I\u2019ve enjoyed my time in New York.\u00a0 It\u2019s been a great two year run.\u00a0 You\u2019d like to come back.\u00a0 I love the guys, I love the coaches, Rex (Ryan) is the reason I\u2019m here.\u00a0\u00a0I definitely like coming back and whatever that means.\u00a0 I just got to get healthy and you never know what\u2019s going to happen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
